This is in response to This Week’s Writer’s Workshop Prompts – August 20, 2026, hosted by John Holton.
I chose option #4: What’s the most amusing thing that happened in the last week?
Lyra was over for the afternoon with her brother and sister, and what amused me most wasn’t anything she said. It was the way she handled me and my camera. Every time I pointed it in her direction, she lifted her hand like a tiny traffic cop and said, “No. No.” Then she turned her back and walked away with all the confidence of someone used to dodging photographers on a red carpet.
Fussing wasn’t her style. Pouting wasn’t either. She simply declined the photo op and moved on, as if she had a publicist somewhere who’d already told her she’d done enough press for the day.
I swear, she’s five going on famous.

Lol! Definitely hilarious! She’s so awesome!
Ha! I like her. 😉🤗
LOL Thank you!
That’s adorable! 😀 If the AI image is an accurate portrait of Lyra, she’s also very cute.
Thank you, Debbie. 😀🌺 It’s rendered from a picture of her and is pretty close. I appreciate your kind words.
Is that a real picture of her? She’s cute! My godmother would not take “no” for an answer. She was a real pain sometimes…
Thanks for hosting the prompt, John. This one was fun to write. The picture isn’t actually Lyra, though. I rendered it from a real photo of her using ChatGPT, so it’s an illustration based on her face and pose. She really does act like a tiny celebrity avoiding the paparazzi.
Your godmother sounds determined. Some people don’t accept “no,” even when they should.
That’s so precious! She’s adorable 🥰
Thank you so much, Paula. She lights up my world.
What a delightful and genuinely amusing little story! 😊📸 Lyra sounds like she already knows exactly how to manage the paparazzi!
I especially loved the image of her raising her hand like a tiny traffic cop, firmly declaring, “No. No.” 😂 There’s something wonderfully charming about the confidence with which children express themselves—no fuss, no drama, just a clear decision and off they go!
Thank you, Vijay. 😃 I’m so pleased you enjoyed this story about Lyra. You really hit the nail on the head. 😉🌸😁
ha ha that was funny. I have not seen this prompt before. I lot of people are having some interesting write-offs.
It really was a fun one. You can go in all kinds of directions with it, which makes it even more fun.
She’s adorable!! My mother did not like her photo taken and would turn away and say no!
Thank you, John. She keeps me laughing. Your mom sounds like she had the same instinct. Some people just know when they’re done with the camera.
