Writer’s Workshop: The Paparazzi Problem

This is in response to This Week’s Writer’s Workshop Prompts – August 20, 2026, hosted by John Holton.

I chose option #4: What’s the most amusing thing that happened in the last week?

Lyra was over for the afternoon with her brother and sister, and what amused me most wasn’t anything she said. It was the way she handled me and my camera. Every time I pointed it in her direction, she lifted her hand like a tiny traffic cop and said, “No. No.” Then she turned her back and walked away with all the confidence of someone used to dodging photographers on a red carpet.

Fussing wasn’t her style. Pouting wasn’t either. She simply declined the photo op and moved on, as if she had a publicist somewhere who’d already told her she’d done enough press for the day.

I swear, she’s five going on famous.

She’s adorable!! My mother did not like her photo taken and would turn away and say no!

Thank you, John. She keeps me laughing. Your mom sounds like she had the same instinct. Some people just know when they’re done with the camera.
