Lilly’s Evening Assessment

My oldest granddaughter, Lilly, was getting tucked into bed when she suddenly asked her dad who his favorite Disney princess is. He thought about it for half a second and said Rapunzel, because she reminds him of her mom.

Lilly squinted at him in the dim night‑light glow, processing this with the seriousness of a tiny bedtime philosopher. Then she delivered her verdict, calm, confident, and absolutely lethal.

“Hmmm… yeah. Because she wants to escape the house.”

Seven‑year‑olds don’t just observe life. They audit it.

Hopefully Mom has the time she needs to nurture herself as she lovingly cares for her family. Lilly knows that life at home is a never ending list of many tasks.
When Mom looks after herself, she increases the energy she requires to then lovingly care for everyone else. It would help Lilly a lot if Mom explained this to her, then she’ll understand that caring for oneself should always comes first.

If Mommy is a full-time stay at home mom then she needs time away to call her own for a reset. 7 year olds don’t get that but someday Lily will. Kids frequently see the truth more clearly than adults. Thanks for sharing this moment and making me smile first thing this morning. Have a blessed week!

Such a smart girl to make that connection. If we take the time to listen to children, we just might learn a few things. 🙂

Too funny! 😆 And probably had a ring of truth to it. We all want to “escape the house” sometimes, don’t we?
