When Jimmy and Katy were little, they had a bouncy horse with wooden pegs so they could hang on while they rode. One afternoon, I walked through the living room and something shot past my peripheral vision from the playroom, followed by a thump and laughter. I stepped in and found Katy standing on the handles like she’d decided gravity was optional now. I opened my mouth to tell her to stop, but she launched herself across the room and landed on a pile of beanbag chairs Jimmy had stacked like he was running a stunt academy. I aged ten years in that moment and another five when she popped up and asked if I wanted to see her do it again.

That’s so adorable, Kymber. I love the way kids create their own fun and defy gravity in the process. I used to do stuff like that all the time as a kid. What a great story. I guess you all survived it just fine.

Mom says she thinks humans and animals are born fearless and only develop fear as they go through life. It explains why kids to insane things without thinking twice and why parents have to pay attention to what they are up to and also try not to panic, LOL! Mom remembers her and her brother doing things as kids that could have really hurt them but they were clueless and thought it was fun. Parents can’t be there 24/7.
Kids really do come into the world fearless. Parents just try to keep up.

Katy never thought about the danger of things. Instead, she tended to jump in feet first. LOL

Sounds like my kids… Especially my youngest. He was a daredevil! Their antics aged me too, but to be honest, I miss those days. Do you miss them being younger?
Oh, yes, I sure miss them being younger. I’ve enjoyed all their ages, but I do miss that.
You ain’t seen nuthin yet. What about the day they invite you to ‘come watch us hang-glide, mum!!! Like the day I showed my dad my pilot’s log book after I passed my pilot’s test. He never proudly congratulated me. He just shouted, ‘You’re crazy, you’ve no idea how dangerous flying is!’ Many years later, after he passed, I had a vicious vertigo attack while at home. On that day, I realized what he meant and immediately surrendered my license.
Kids sure know how to give us heart‑stopping moments. I’m glad you understood your dad’s fear later.
