Josie looks very comfortable in her role and supervisory position.
She takes that position seriously. It’s her command post and she’s comfortable running the room from up there.
I’ve always like a safe place well above the fray. It’s no fun down there where the mud slinging and ear pulling is taking place. Josie is also quite clever. The most beautiful cat in my past cat family was the daughter of Kizzie Bell and so we named her Josie Bell. She was the princess among the feline royal court.
Josie knows how to claim her place. Sounds like your Josie Bell did the same. Some cats are born knowing they’re royalty.
They do tend to recognize their cousins the Lions and Lionesses as their claim to king of beasts status. They do have a reputation to uphold a they do it well.
Josie Bell set the standard, and Josie follows it. They both climb high and act like the family crown depends on them.
I’m sure it’s an honor for them to have such a high position in the pride.
I bet you’re right. I’m pretty sure they promoted themselves, too.

A friend of mine has a cat named Bad Kitty. It had a fever when it was young and now is not quite right in the head. Bad Kitty is an example of what can go wrong when they don’t have all their marbles together. This cat is hilarious tho.
Bad Kitty sounds like the kind of cat who wakes up every morning, consults whatever marbles are left, and decides chaos is the only reasonable path forward.
I believe you are right. Bad Kitty hides and attacks our ankles until she gets hungry then she campaigns vigorously for something to eat. After a nap, she is back to hunting us down again. Them marbles is mighty loose.
Bad Kitty sounds like she treats ankle attacks as her cardio. Those loose marbles keep her busy.😹
She doesn’t nap as much as her peers. Which means, the surprise attacks can come at any moment. Once she subdues the ankle of interest, she darts off to a new location and slowly sneaks up from a different angle. All ankles are equally treated as prey.
She’s running her own ankle‑training program. With that kind of stealth, no one’s ever safe for long.
I always wear long pants where the cuff touches the ground at Bad Kitty’s house. They had one of those pug dogs as a companion for Bad Kitty. The dog wasn’t big enough to thwart Bad Kitty’s attacks but it always thought it was play time and those two would rough house for an hour then pile up on the couch together and take a nap.
Bad Kitty sounds like the reason long pants were invented. That pug didn’t stand a chance, but I like how they both acted like chaos was a warm‑up before their nap.
I think I would have worried a lot more until I saw how much those two enjoyed the Rawr-Woof lifestyle. The rest of us were just collateral damage.
That Rawr‑Woof lifestyle sounds like it should’ve come with hazard pay. 😂
I do have a story of the time the SPCA agent came to my house and was knocked over by a litter of Irish setters and two litters of kittens when I opened the door. The Minor Bird made it worse by laughing like a hyena.
That sounds like the kind of scene that makes an SPCA agent reconsider their entire career path. I can practically hear that bird cackling while the kittens and setters staged their coup.😂
It was the kind of mayhem you never forget. Kittens and puppies are just like kids, they want to go outside and play all the time. An open door is an invitation to skedaddle. The poor guy probably still tells that story at family gatherings.
I can imagine him telling that story for years. It was quite a scene.😀
My wife and I were just barely 20 and 21 years old so it was our first introduction to mayhem involving a government agent. We were quite worried at first, but the guy had a great sense of humor and we made his census more fun. The kittens and puppies were too young for the required shots and registrations so he gave us a lot of good information and went on his way. Not wanting to risk any future adversarial visits, we complied with all the instructions.
I’m glad he had a sense of humor, and it sounds like you handled it well. Getting everything sorted afterward was the smart move.
We honestly wanted to do the right thing and we were by no means defiant or rude because we were sure stampeding an SPCA agent with an over abundance of critters was probably breaking the law. It turned out well and later we had a permanent memory of life’s little nuances.
It sounds like you handled that whole scene with more grace than anyone could have expected. A stampede of kittens and puppies probably did qualify as a legal gray area, but the way you approached it shows you were trying to do right by everyone involved. Moments like that stay with you. They turn into the small memories that surface years later and remind you how unpredictable and strangely sweet life can be.
Absolutely. Our critter collection gave us a lifetime of fun memories.
I have a cabinet just like that, but it didn’t come with a cat!
