Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood. I was convinced he was talking directly to me, personally, by name, as if he’d been briefed on my entire four‑year‑old life. I’d sit there nodding solemnly, thinking, Yes, Mr. Rogers, I too have feelings about the crayon factory episode.
Unsweetened iced tea. I order it like it’s a sophisticated cocktail, even though it’s just leaves pretending to be interesting.
The Wizard of Oz. I’ve watched it so many times I still brace myself for flying monkeys whenever a bird flaps too fast.
My Mrs. Beasley doll from my sixth birthday. I was obsessed with Buffy on Family Affair and watched her every morning, so getting that doll felt like winning the lottery. And I still have her.

I loved my Chrissy Doll. She had hair you could make longer by pulling it from the top of her head. Funny, I wish I could do that now with my thin, old hair.
