Windfalls, Wallets, and Wishful Thinking: My SYW Answers

Hello and happy timezones, kind friends! This is a prompt by Di at Pensitivity and it looks like fun, so I’m going to give it a go!

1.  Have you ever won a major prize in a competition / raffle?
2.  Do you play the National Lottery (if you have one in your country)
3.  If you were to suddenly benefit from a financial windfall of, say £100,000 or $100,000, how would you use it?
4.  Do you consider yourself to be in a better financial position than you were ten years ago?

───── ⋆⋅My Answers⋅⋆ ─────

1. I did win a writing contest once, and just the other day I won a signed book from the author, which was a fun surprise. But raffles? No. My name never seems to get pulled from those little bins.
2. I used to play Mega Millions, but after a while it felt less like gambling and more like weekly charitable giving. I was basically funding someone else’s dream home. Eventually I took the hint and stopped.
3. If $100,000 dropped into my life, I’d share a good portion with my grown kids. At this stage, helping them move forward feels better than buying myself anything extravagant. It’s nice when a windfall can ripple outward instead of just sitting in my bank account.
4. I’d say yes. Ten years ago, my bank account looked like it was trying to survive a famine. These days it’s not exactly thriving, but at least it no longer needs emergency rescue services.
