Hello and happy timezones, kind friends! I have greatly enjoyed your responses to my Get to Know You posts.
So, it’s time. Come sit on my porch for a spell. Tea, lemonade and refreshments will be served shortly.
Here are 3 questions! Let’s go!
.
───── ⋆⋅Round #102⋅⋆ ─────
1. What’s a small comfort you rely on more than you admit?
2. What’s the most random thing you’ve learned lately?
3. What’s a small thing you wish people appreciated more?
───── ⋆⋅Here are my answers⋅⋆ ─────
- My small comfort is the ice pack I keep for my shoulder. I use it so often it should probably have its own chair. If it ever vanished, the search would be immediate and dramatic.
- The most random thing I’ve learned lately is that tomato plants can survive more drama than I can. Mine have been knocked over, soaked, and blown around, and they still act like nothing happened. I wish I had that level of composure.
- A small thing I wish people appreciated more is a quiet morning. Not the dramatic kind. Just the simple calm before everything starts moving. It’s underrated, and it does more good than people realize.

And now it’s your turn. If you’d rather just read, that’s perfectly fine. A quick hello would be lovely, and quiet lurkers are always welcome. xo
Thank you so much for reading, liking, lurking, and commenting! You are important!

Belated answers from Sandman’s Sister.
Taking my bra off after a long day and letting the girls hang free
Bikinis aren’t allowed in my local swimming pool.
Lined parking bays, makes life so much easier
Thank you for your answers. The bra one made me laugh, the bikini rule surprised me, and I agree about lined parking bays. I enjoyed reading all three.
I suspect that there might have been falling out incidents… or incidents of ,likely men or teens, “hilariously” unfastening the tops.
You might be right. Rules like that usually come from someone causing trouble at some point.
If it is the later, I hope it is down to mischievous teenage boys acting stupid because of hormones, not dirty old men being perverts.
I’m hoping it was just normal teenage nonsense. Either way, I’m glad they put a rule in place so everyone feels comfortable.
Those are very good answers. These are mine:
Q1. What’s a small comfort you rely on more than you admit? — sitting with my little beer gnome in my beautiful beer garden and drinking a beer.
Q2. What’s the most random thing you’ve learned lately? — that the reduction in price of RAM (random access memory) since 1957 is 3,48 trillion times. I’ve known a long time that is was by a lot. I would have guessed millions of times. I just did not know how much it was. A lot more than I’d thought. It is incredible.
Q3. What’s a small thing you wish people appreciated more? Air conditioning. We are currently having extreme temperatures here in north Texas. Today it was 108 degrees (42 Celsius) and it was the same yesterday. Thanks to AC it is possible for us humans and dogs to survive, but how about wild animals? I just wish we were more careful with not overusing it. It is not just the bill, but environmental concerns, and grid stability.
Thank you, Thomas. Your beer gnome, the RAM numbers, and that Texas heat made for a great set of answers. I liked seeing where each question took you.
Fun questions! Glad your tomatoes were fine after the trauma! Good to have the comfort of your ice pack. Mine is my heating pad. Quiet mornings are so lovely, too.
Here are my answers … https://wp.me/p3RE1e-oWv
Thank you so much for playing! I can’t wait to read your answers. And I’m glad you like the questions.
My favorite thing is a quiet morning, but I rarely get them. The hubbie puts on music the moment he gets up.
I understand that. Quiet mornings feel rare when the house wakes up with music.🌺
1) My power recliner with Cloud Zero setting. Every time we travel, I look forward to getting back to its comfort.
2) That the new country of U.S.A. offered George Washington the chance to be a king, but he turned it down and eventually settled on the title Mr. President.
3) Time in nature, whether it be a back yard garden or a forest park. A chance to quiet the mind and forget all the crap going on in the world.
Happy weekend Kymber. Allan
Allan, these were a pleasure to read. Your recliner loyalty made me smile, and that Washington detail is one of those quiet reminders of how different things could’ve been. The way you describe time in nature feels like a reset button we all need. Happy weekend to you too, Allan.
Love quiet mornings, Lol about the tomato plants!
LOL They are sure resiliant! 😂

Thank you, Di! I can’t wait to read them!
I’m definitely with you on the quiet mornings, Kymber. I don’t care for much conversation – or any – for at least an hour or more.
Teri, I’m right there with you. Quiet mornings feel different when you ease into them without conversation. That first hour sets the pace for the whole day, and I’ve always appreciated having that space before everything starts moving.
What’s a small comfort you rely on more than you admit? When Twiggy decides to snuggle on the couch.
What’s the most random thing you’ve learned lately? To clean a hand-held strainer, you take a spoon and hold it over the strainer. Then run water over the spoon. The water spreads out to flush the strainer
What’s a small thing you wish people appreciated more? The joy of quiet conversation.
John, Twiggy snuggling on the couch sounds like the best kind of comfort. Those quiet moments with a pet settle the whole day.
Your strainer trick is new to me, and now I want to try it. It’s always the simplest little things that make you wonder why you never thought of them before.
And I agree with you about quiet conversation. There’s something steadying about talking with someone who isn’t rushing or filling the space. It’s one of the easiest things to overlook and one of the nicest things to have.
My dogs sitting next to me. I will miss that when they’re gone.
I remember Kathy telling me something and I remarked that we learn something new every day but I can’t remember what it was! 😆😂
Oh, and kindness!
Yes! Right on!
Kim, I get that. Having your dogs right beside you is a comfort you feel in your bones. Those quiet moments with them stay with you long after they’re gone.
And your second answer made me laugh. We really do learn something new every day, even if the details slip away the minute we try to remember them.😂😂
Poor, bored box. Bless it’s heart, I feel like I should give it something. I reckon I qualify as a quiet lurker. I do always ‘like’ and share you to X, though. That small comfort? I’m with you on that one. I love waking every morning before the sun comes up, sitting on the porch with my coffee and a book, and just soaking up the quiet. Then, after daylight hits my Companion hits the floor waking up the whole neighborhood, and then out comes his brother and suddenly the house is alive. I’m smiling though, because I’ve had my quiet time and that gets me through the day. Lastly, I’ll just say that I love your blog!
Jim, your mornings sound peaceful. There’s something steadying about that quiet before the day wakes up. Coffee, a porch, and a book can carry a person farther than most people realize. And I had to smile at your Companion and his brother. That shift from calm to full‑tilt life is familiar, and you described it perfectly.
Thank you for the kind words about my blog. I’m glad you’re here, whether you’re lurking or jumping in. It means a lot.
What’s a small comfort you rely on more than you admit? Holding hands with hubby. It’s a huge comfort.
What’s the most random thing you’ve learned lately? There’s an apartment in the Eiffel Tower. I was amazed by this.
What’s a small thing you wish people appreciated more? That people focus on the positive things in life, not the negative. Some folks can’t get past the negative.
Have a fabulous day and rest of the week, Kymber. Love and hugs to you and lots of scritches to the kitties. ♥
Sandee, I love your answers. Holding hands is one of those comforts that looks simple but carries so much steadiness. And I didn’t know about the apartment in the Eiffel Tower until you posted about it. That’s the kind of fact that makes you stop for a second and smile.
I agree with you about focusing on the positive. Some people get stuck in the negative and never notice what’s still good right in front of them.
Wishing you a wonderful day and the rest of the week. Love and hugs back to you, and the kitties will happily take every scritch.🩷
First – Hey, I’ve missed you. Everything okay there?
Round #102
Digestive biccies! They’re great any time of the day — for brekkie, mid-morning coffee, lunch, afternoon tea, for afters, and evening snacks. They’re the perfect food. Don’t judge!
Manatees use gas to swim, by holding or releasing their, um, flatulence to control how they float. (Thank you “QI”!)
That differing opinions — even on the tough stuff like religion and politics — don’t have to make you mortal enemies.
Like Jeff said, I’m behind on reading blogs…AGAIN, but here we go. 1) Air Conditioning. Maybe that’s not a small comfort with the temperatures soaring up to 109 here, but I certainly am grateful for it! 2) I learned that our Shadow Self is in place to protect, rather than to harm us. This was in a Story Empire post today. 3) I wish more people truly appreciated the gift of another day on this planet. We take so much for granted, like we’ll be here forever.
Jan, I’m glad you jumped in today. Air conditioning absolutely counts. With those temperatures, it’s more of a lifeline than a comfort, and I’d be grateful for it too.
Your note about the Shadow Self was interesting. It’s surprising how often the things we think are working against us are actually trying to keep us steady.
And I agree with you about the gift of another day. It’s easy to forget how fragile life is until something reminds us. Waking up and getting one more chance is never a small thing.
Mine is an ice pack too, but it goes on my knees!
Oh, I feel ya! I’m not liking this getting older thing. lol
“…should probably have its own chair”–love that.
LOL Thank you, Jacqui. Happy Friday!
I think 1 and 3 are tied together for me. And, maybe they aren’t so small. Friendships. When you have a dear friend die as I have you appreciate the friends you have even more. You appreciate the people who ask how you are doing and really mean it. You take comfort in knowing that if you need support you have someone to call on. Friendships may seem like small things but they’re the biggest things we have outside of our faith and maybe our families. I’m an emotional person so I’ve always tried to appreciate my friends. If you’re still reading this, don’t take yours for granted.
Bestie, I get what you’re saying. Losing someone close changes the way you look at every friendship you still have. It makes you pay attention to the people who check in and mean it, the ones who stay present even when life gets heavy. You’re right that friendships look small from the outside, but they carry the biggest weight in a life.
I’m grateful for ours. And I’m glad you shared this.
Thank you so much, Kymber! I agree with you about quiet, calm mornings that do us good. Here are my answers for today:

I’m so happy to hear that! How wonderful! 🌺🌺
Thank you so much! 🌸🌸

Good morning, my friend, and happy timezones to you! I confess that I am way behind on blog reading, and apologize for that. I do plan to get caught up, eventually. Now on to today’s questions. They are very thought-provoking.
1) There’s this “ritual,” I suppose, that I enact every morning and every night. In the morning, I make a cup of coffee and light a scented candle on my study desk, before I begin my daily devotions. At nighttime, before going to bed, I make a cup of tea and light the candle before my evening devotions. The combination of the hot beverage and the candle make for a peaceful, calming atmosphere.
2) I’m trying to think, here. The first thing that comes to mind might not exactly be “lately,” but I learned that, to easily open a glass jar of something the first time, all one needs to do is turn the jar over and whack the bottom with the open palm of your hand. There will be an audible “pop” as the pressure seal releases, and then opening the jar is a cinch.
3) Silence. And maybe that’s not such a “small” thing. But there is rarely any true silence in my world. Even right now, I have some contemplative music playing on my Spotify. Once upon a time, I was a music minister/worship leader in Southern Baptist Churches, and there always had to be some kind of “noise” going on. If there was any time when there could be silence, the pastors always wanted some music playing or something. It’s like they were afraid of the quiet. As I have gotten older, I appreciate the silence. After all, God spoke to Elijah in the “still, small voice,” right?
Sorry I write a mini-essay for every question. LOL!!! Blessings on your day, Kymber! ❤️
Happy timezones! Jeff, I always enjoy reading your answers. Your morning and evening ritual sounds peaceful. There’s something grounding about a warm drink and a single candle. It sets the pace for the day and settles the night.
Your jar trick made me smile. I’ve done the same thing, and that little pop feels like a small victory every time.
Your thoughts on silence stayed with me. True quiet is rare, and it’s easy to forget how much it matters until you finally have it. You’re right about that still, small voice. Sometimes the quiet is the only place you can hear anything at all.
Blessings on your day, Jeff.
Thank you so much, my friend. May your night be peaceful and blessed as you rest.
Thank you. I wish the same for you, my friend. 😊🙏
I’m with you on that one. I embrace the calm and quiet.
Right on, Liz! Thank you!
Happy Thursday, Kymber! Good to see you!! Thought I’d give this a shot.
What’s a small comfort you rely on more than you admit?
I have a maternity pillow that I cannot sleep without. It helps to keep my spine aligned when sleeping, which will sometimes keep the sciatica at a low roar.
What’s the most random thing you’ve learned lately?
Hmmm. The most totally random thing? Horsehair bristle toothbrushes are surprisingly comfortable to use. Once, of course, you trick your brain into dismissing the idea of putting horsehair in your mouth.
What’s a small thing you wish people appreciated more?
Presence. When someone lives life with no security or comfort, simply having someone present is precious. Such a small thing, but so important.
Happy Friday now! Sorry I’m late!
I loved reading these. Your maternity pillow answer made me smile because it’s one of those things people don’t talk about but absolutely swear by once they find the right one. And the horsehair toothbrush? I never would’ve guessed that would be comfortable, but now I’m curious.
Your last answer hit me the most. Presence really is underrated. When life feels unstable, having someone simply there changes the whole texture of a moment. You put that beautifully.
sugar salt to them no halt
life is a circle
give thanks daily
Love your answers!
