Hello and happy timezones, kind friends! I have greatly enjoyed your responses to my Get to Know You posts.

So, it’s time. Come sit on my porch for a spell. Tea, lemonade and refreshments will be served shortly.

The party game Balderdash is a bluffing game, and one of my favorites. All you have to do is provide your version of the definition after each word. It’s okay if you don’t know what the word means, just give it the most creative definition you can think of. Answers will be provided below where I usually answer, under the spoliers.

Round #53 – Balderdash Edition:

What are the definitions of:

  1. lychnobite

  2. scuppermong

  3. drapetomania

Here are the correct answers:

Hover your mouse over each one to see the answer.

Answer to 1
Answer to 2
Answer to 3

And now, it’s your turn! If you don’t want to participate, no problem! I’m just glad you’re here. A hello would be fantastic, though! Of course, lurkers are always heartily welcome, too. xo

Thank you so much for reading, liking, lurking, and commenting! You are important!

1: lychnobite (n): A mythological creature similar to a werewolf, but instead of being a man who turns into a wolf or displays wolf-like features, this is a wolf that transforms into a human.

scuppermong (n): A grimy build-up that can plug up scuppers if not cleaned out regularly.
drapetomania (n): An extreme love of window dressings.

A cultivated variety of American grape.

An overwhelming urge to run away from a difficult situation.

Hope you’re having a great weekend!❤️

lychnobite – what I say to Bond when new people come to the house – we like them, no bite.

scuppermong – sounds like a nasty insect I’d find in the flower garden. Something that would cling to you in hopes of coming into the house and making itself at home.

drapetomania – clearly the overwhelming desire to purchase many and varied types of drapes for every window in your home.

Reply
Kymber @booomcha February 14, 2025 - 9:10 am

Oh wow, Teri! Your definition for lychnobite had me rolling!! Now I’m always going to think about this when we have company. haha

Thank you for playing. You’re really funny!

Reply
john howell February 13, 2025 - 4:52 pm

lychnobite – A condemned person who has to be muzzled.

scuppermong – A big dish that allows the mongs to all eat at the same time.

drapetomania – A horrifying fear that someone may wipe their dirty hands on the curtains.

I love this! I knew the definition of drapetomania (well, the one invented by the oppressors), but had no clue about the others.

Reply
Kymber @booomcha February 14, 2025 - 9:07 am

I’m glad you enjoyed this. I hope the word drapetomania wasn’t offensive. I took the word right from the game without realizing.

Reply
Astrid February 15, 2025 - 4:55 pm

You picking this word from the game was not offensive to me, but then again I’m white.

Kymber @booomcha February 16, 2025 - 12:19 pm

Well, I have to say, “thank you” for teaching me more about it. I appreciate it.

Reply
joannerambling February 13, 2025 - 2:38 pm

Ok this sounds like fun and I have never heard of these words but to me they could mean the following.

Lychnobite: Someone who likes to wonder through the fruit section of a supermarket taking a bite out of the lychees

Scuppermong: Someone who likes to scrub stuff

Drapetomania: Someone who is crazy about drapes

Kymber @booomcha February 14, 2025 - 9:03 am

Okay, I like Balderdash, and Fibbing Friday a lot! Oh where are your funny answers? Here’s mine…
1. lynchnobite … This is one of those rubber dog bones they like to chew on.
2. I know scuppernong is grapes and wine, but scupperMong is — those fellas who bang gongs on old fashioned movies.
3. drapetomania — is the midnight crazies/zoomies that cats have when the run around and climb the drapes in the living room.

Reply
Kymber @booomcha February 13, 2025 - 11:45 am

Hey there! I’m glad you like them. I don’t see this as a permanent thing, but I was wanting to do something a little different today. ❤️

LOLOLOL Your answers are hilarious! I like the gongs answer the best. haha But I could see how drapetomania sounds like cat zoomies. 😀

Thank you so much for playing. You are so good at this!

Kymber @booomcha February 13, 2025 - 11:42 am

Hi, Laura! I’m so glad to see you. Balderdash is so much fun at family gatherings. We’ve played this game as a family since before the board game for it came out. We used to use a dictionary and we called it Fictionary. LOL

Balderdash has other categories, too, like anagrams, or where you’re given the title of a movie and you come up with a brief summary to try to fool the others. lol It’s fun.

My Thursday is going well, thank you. I hope yours is, too. 🙂

Debbie D. February 13, 2025 - 11:22 am

Whelp, here goes a try:

lychnobite = someone who loves David Lynch’s movies so much that while watching his movies, they frequently miss their mouth while tossing in popcorn, thereby making a royal mess.
scuppermong = someone who collects soup ladles.
drapetomania = the period of ultra-excitement when someone rushes around the curtains and drapes section of a department store and is unable to choose a color, pattern, or texture.

They are so funny! I especially liked #2! But they are all hilarious.

Thank you so much for playing! You’re very creative! 😀

Reply
Jeff February 13, 2025 - 10:23 am

Okay. I’ll play! And I’m doing it before looking at yours or anyone else’s answers, so I’m not influenced.
1. lychnobite – an archaic spelling of the tendency to lick a Tootsie Pop until one gets to the chewy, Tootsie Roll center (or any other kind of lollipop, for that matter)
2. scuppermong – one who is obsessed with thwarting others’ attempts at productivity, whether playfully or not
3. drapetomania – the obsession with throwing tomatoes at the draperies.
