Esther’s Writing Prompt: Where We Gathered

For Esther’s Writing Prompts challenge, using the prompt word “fire.”

Fire has always meant more to me than heat. It’s the smell that clings to clothes after a long night outside, the way food tastes different when it’s cooked over open flame, the sound of kids laughing while they run around the yard. I think of s’mores, half‑burned marshmallows, and stories told because the dark makes people honest.

Those nights were never complicated. Just a circle of people, a crackle in the air, and the quiet that shows up when everyone is exactly where they want to be. Fire didn’t demand anything. It just gave us a place to gather.

I still think of it that way.

I agree. I also have many good memories of camp fires, companionship, the warmth, the hot dogs, the heat, the coziness.

Those moments stay vivid. A fire after a long day has its own kind of comfort. I’m glad the piece brought yours back.

Such a cozy image and thoughts, Kymber. ❤️ I remember doing this in northern lower in the 70s woth many of my family members snowmobiling for hours. We would stop somewhere after dark and build a fire and cook food. Such good times!

Those nights stay vivid. There’s something about a fire after hours in the cold that pulls everyone together. I’m glad my piece brought yours back.🌺🩷

S’mores and half-burnt marshmallows sound very delicious in the nights, especially during bonfires. And such places are where friends have their gatherings. You just made me want not only one, but more s’mores! Wonderfully written, Kymber! 👍☺️

Thank you so much. Those nights had their own flavor. S’mores were practically a requirement. I’m glad the piece made you crave one.🌺🔥
