I’m starting to think you’ve been studying the cats longer than you admit. Those nap positions aren’t accidental. You might be closer to earning your whiskers than you think.
In my past I had lots of very zen cats. We were very tribal together. My Irish Setter was raised from a squiggly pup by our two tom cats, Ralph and Rufus. Misty thought she was a cat too and all her life she identified as a cat. She squabbled with feral dogs coming into our yard to cause mischief and she won every battle because she fought like a Tom cat on her haunches, her paws punching the the feral dogs who never expected a furry red boxing champ. Ralph and Rufus rarely even looked up because they knew Misty had their back. Ra;ph and Rufus finally got married and settled down. Their wives were named KIzzy Bell and Sadie Mae and together they kept us busy with their families of kids and cousins. Naturally, I saw where their life had an edge over my own and I adapted just like Misty. Even the pet birds and turtles joined in. They all lived out their natural lives with us and you could say, I lived happily ever after.
You lived in the middle of a full animal saga. Misty fighting like a tom cat is a visual I won’t forget. Ralph and Rufus starting families just seals the legend.
LOL! It was the best years of my life. I should have stayed in my little house with my Cat family. But I sought adventure in foreign places and had to say goodbye. My parents and siblings took very good care of them and they lived happily ever after too.
We now have a Golden Doodle dawg and I know if Emmy Doodle the Doodle Dawg was raised by a nice cat family, she would be outrageously cool and sophisticated. At present, she is a well trained snack hound.
She has definitely mastered snacking and is ready to move up to bigger challenges. She is totally mystified by cats. She doesn’t harm them she just likes to strike a pose like she’s a bird dog or something. The cats in the neighborhood love to tease her. They will run up to her and then squat down in the grass in true stalking lion mode. She then creeps up to them and sticks her big fluffy tail straight out, lifts her foot and points her nose at them. Then they jump up and run away and she hauls behind back to the house and asks for a snack. It’s hilarious.
Emby actually watches influencers on YOuTube and IG every day to get ideas. When the Cat influencers are on, she is locked into the screen. She wants to learn all she can.
Indeed she is. We have a lot of pictures and video of her absolutely entranced by the TV. Her absolute favorite is the Disney movie 101 Dalmatians. She hides under the couch when Cruela DeVille is in the scene.
It seemed to happen without the malice of forethought. We all felt safe there and besides, that was where the TV was and the coffee table to hold all our drinks and snacks which mysteriously our couch ate when we weren’t looking.
Yes indeed. We have a lot of mysterious couch stories. My favorite was finding our remote 5 years after it disappeared. It had mysteriously made its way through a series of secret spaces into the dust netting under the couch. WE think some Little hands put it there but can’t be sure.
Remote recoveries like that always feel less like a discovery and more like the couch finally admitting what it’s been up to. Little hands or not, it clearly had its own plan.
Whew! It can be a real chore to keep the hoard pile down. We learned to never blindly poke the vacuum cleaner hose into crevices or we spend hours trying to unplug the hose. Old peanut butter sandwiches are the worst offenders.
It really was an archeological dig site that never failed to produce a long lost artifact. Now that the kids and grandkids are grown, it appears we have reached the end of the productive discovery phase.
It sounds like your couch finally ran out of artifacts to surrender. Every dig site has its golden age, and yours clearly peaked when the kids were still dropping offerings into the cushions.
Much like the pyramids, our couch is an icon of the past. IT’s quiet there now but the indentations in the cushions hold the spirit of those hours of The Cartoon Channel and popcorn feasts.
Dan, I’m sorry I missed your earlier comments. I’m catching up now. Your couch sounds like it deserves its own museum wing. I can almost picture future archaeologists brushing off popcorn dust and declaring it a cultural treasure.
Waaa haaa haaa! My couch will live in infamy, a relic of the 90s. NO problem on skipping over my comments. Sometimes keeping a little distance from my comments is good for the mental health of the general public.
Hyperion, your couch deserves its own historical marker. And as for your comments, I think the general public’s mental health is already hanging by a thread, so you’re probably just adding character at this point.
Ha ha ha haaaa! Love your comment. We need more character in our public lives. Perhaps with a bit more grinning and a little less sinning, we’ll improve our public decorum.
As I sink further into the fog of elderhood, it becomes necessary to keep things as light as possible, otherwise, I won’t remember why I’m laughing so hard. I feel a little silly when that happens.
You’re handling elderhood the way a seasoned mischief‑maker should. Keeping things light makes the laughter easier to hold onto, even when it slips away for a moment. There’s nothing silly about it. It’s the same energy you’ve always had. You’ve spent a lifetime turning chaos into humor, so forgetting the reason behind the laughter just means you’re still doing it right.
What a wonderful and positive way to look at the incoming fog. Thank you Kymber, I actually feel relieved now that my merry making seems to have gone on auto-pilot.
Thank you, Aptivi. They really are sweet when they settle in under the window. I’m sorry the start of your weekend felt a bit heavy, and I hope the rest of it brings you something brighter. 🌺🌺

A wonderful agenda! Gorgeous cats too!
Thank you so much. They are such fun.
Oh so nice
Thank you so much, Jo-Anne.
Holy smokes! I nap in the same positions. No wonder everyone accuses me of being a cat napper. But, they look like real pros.

It sounds like you had a strong bond with them. I’m glad your family kept them safe and happy.

Emmy Doodle sounds like she’s already halfway there. A good cat family would finish the job, but being a well‑trained snack hound is a solid start.

She’s so earnest about it. The cats give her a show, she gives them one back, and then she trots home for her snack. It’s a funny little ritual.
Yes and anything she does that earns her a snack is permanently added to her list of tricks she has mastered.
She sounds like she’s building her own résumé one snack at a time. That’s a clever girl.

She’s taking notes like it’s her job. If the cat influencers are on, she’s probably planning her next big move.

She knows exactly who the villain is. Couch = safe house.
LOL! It’s my safe house too. We all collect there it seems.
Makes sense. Every smart creature retreats to the couch when the villain shows up.
We’ve found that the couch is easily defended if we all stick together.
That’s the way family should be, and you’ve proven it.
It seemed to happen without the malice of forethought. We all felt safe there and besides, that was where the TV was and the coffee table to hold all our drinks and snacks which mysteriously our couch ate when we weren’t looking.
Couches have their own rules. Yours sounded like it enforced them well.

Now that we are on to the couch’s secret hoarding affliction, we check more often.
Good plan. Once a couch starts hoarding, you’ve got to stay vigilant.
Whew! It can be a real chore to keep the hoard pile down. We learned to never blindly poke the vacuum cleaner hose into crevices or we spend hours trying to unplug the hose. Old peanut butter sandwiches are the worst offenders.
That couch has a whole archaeology dig going on.😂

You always manage to make these things sound like a philosophy class. 🌺 I’ll go along with the grinning idea.
I think philosophically speaking, grinning is a much better option for us. Let’s just tick to that.
Grinning works for me. It’s simple, and it keeps things lighter. I’m fine sticking with that.

Our dog Rollo loves the window to, but it’s for him to look at the outside. I know cats love the sun. Happy Caturday.
Thanks, Thomas. I actually have your post about Rollo and the window open in my browser. Cats really do love their sun. Happy Caturday… on Sunday. lol

Yesssssss. Thank you so much.
They look so cute and cozy on the window bench. 😻
Awww thanks so much, Jenn. I hope you’re having a great weekend!
Haha…emphasis on the ‘ignore humans’. Too sweet! And true! 😜
LOLOL Right? Thank you so much, Vicki! 😹
Xo! 😘
xoxo 😘
So cute! I love how they sleep under the window. 😍
I’m currently enjoying my weekend, but yesterday didn’t go as planned, so I was sad this morning. Have a very wonderful weekend! ☺️

You’re most welcome, Kymber. Yeah, they indeed are!
It’s OK. Thank you so much! I hope so, too. 🌸🌸
