Hello and happy timezones, kind friends! This is a prompt by Di at Pensitivity and it looks like fun, so I’m going to give it a go!
You can join in the fun here: Share Your World!
Here are the Questions:
1. Have you ever bought something on a whim?
2. Have you ever bought a joke gift for someone?
3. Can you remember the silliest gift you ever received (any age)?
4. Did you have birthday parties when you were a child?

Here are my answers:
- Yes, please see #2.
- A little hand mirror that laughs at you when you look into it.
- I really wanted a toast rack for Christmas one year. I love having a proper breakfast with egg cups, toast racks, etc. Do you know what I got? A taco rack/holder. LOL
- Yes, I sure did. I used to be so excited, I would get in trouble. During my 7th birthday party, I was sat in a chair and told to stay there until I settled down. lol

Thank you, Di, for this great group of questions! This was fun!
Thank you so much for reading, liking, lurking, and commenting! You are important!![]()

1 Yes, way too often! Then I have buyers’ remorse, though not for long.
2 Not really.
3 A free Zumba class, which was very sweet but so much not my thing!
4 Yes, and I have lots of black and white pics of them.
I’m glad the buyer’s remorse doesn’t last for long. 😀
I’ve never tried Zumba, and I don’t much want to either, so I feel your pain. lol
How nice that you have pics of your parties. Keeping those memories alive is wonderful!
Not that I can think of nk of. I agonize over most purchases. 😂
Oh yes, I think it was gum that turns your mouth black.
I got horrible gifts early on in our marriage like vacuums and tennis shoes. I didn’t appreciate the practicality until I was grown up and mature.
I guess. I don’t remember them but I do remember my friends throwing me a surprise party when I was 15. My mom almost didn’t let me go, sure there would be boys there. 🥹 Finally, she made the girl’s mom promise -no boys allowed!
I think that’s a good way to be; very careful of purchases.
Oh my goodness! I’ve never heard of that kind of gum! LOLOL
I understand about not appreciating the practicality of those gifts. I was really offended once to get a mop for Mother’s Day years ago. lol
That surprise party sounds so cool! No boys for you! lol
A mirror that laughs at you? Yes, I need to find one of those.
LOL I wonder where you could find one? I bought it at a gag store before online shopping was a thing.
There’s a store nearby that sells things like this. They probably have it, but if not, I’m sure I can get one from the store of all stores—Amazon. 😀
I’m sure you’re right. 😀 I wish you luck in this quest!
No. 2. Yes. I bought a Potty Putting Game for a friend whose wife complained that her husband spent too much time out playing golf. 3. For my 40th. My wife bought me a set of hedge cutters – I wonder why? 4. No. Y’all have lotsa fun now.
Those potty putting games are so funny. I love it!
You got a set of hedge cutters for your 40th? LOL I remember getting a treadmill and bathroom scale one Christmas. I wonder what the message there was? LOLOL
What fun questions!
Thank you, Jacqui! Di comes up with some good ones.
How fun, and very unexpected – I would have never pegged you for a rambunctious child.
Have you ever bought something on a whim? – No.
Have you ever bought a joke gift for someone? – Yes. I can’t really go into detail but it was for my husband, stressed at work, and I got him one of those stressballs, but this one resembled a roundish female body part that normally comes in a set of two. 😉
Can you remember the silliest gift you ever received (any age)? I was down with a flu and about 6 when my mom got me a wind-up toy that was a waddling pear which would stick it’s tongue out at you. I laughed so hard.
Did you have birthday parties when you were a child? – Not really. I have a summer birthday and most of my friends were off to fun vacations, so it was always small circle type get-togethers as I hated the idea of celebrating too early or long after the fact.
I was totally obnoxious. LOL
LOL at the stress ball. 😀
What a lovely childhood memory of the waddling pear your mom gave you. That’s so nice.
I wouldn’t like that either. Great answer!
Ooh, you were a wild child and got timed out, aye? 🤭
— I occasionally buy stuff for my kitchen, usually little stuff on a whim.
— Not that I remember…
— No but it seems like I got something nutty for a birthday gift long ago.
— Probably but I don’t recall those parties.
I hope you get your toast rack! I like the photo updates of you, thanks for being a nurse! 🙏🏻😊
You know it! LOL I was the child having adventure after adventure, climbing trees, always scraping my knees, etc.
I love kitchen gadgets! I’m right there with you.
I did eventually get the toast rack and now I can have all the proper breakfasts I want. lol
Ah, yeah, the photo updates. Thank you! I figured it was about time I acted my age. 😀
Have you ever bought something on a whim? Clothes and then they never get worn as it was not really something Mom would wear.
Have you ever bought a joke gift for someone? Oh yes! Chia Pet for our nephew.
Can you remember the silliest gift you ever received (any age)? Recently, heated Snoopy slippers, LOL! They are super heavy, like bricks on your feet.
Did you have birthday parties when you were a child? Every year, one for our friends and one for the family.
Oh, yes, I see what you mean about the clothes.
A Chia Pet!! LOL Those are so funny.
Heated Snoopy slippers!! That is beyond awesome, but I imagine they are very heavy.
Two parties sound like a blast!
Have you ever bought something on a whim? Yes a timeshare in Mexico. Worst mistake ever.
Have you ever bought a joke gift for someone? Many times and especially with birthdays.
Can you remember the silliest gift you ever received (any age)? A walking cane when I turned 40. That and Geritol and other old age gifts.
Did you have birthday parties when you were a child? No.
That was fun.
Have a fabulous day, Kymber. Love and hugs to you and scritches to the kitties. ♥
Oh no! Those “old-age” gifts are funny. 😀
I hope you’re having a terrific Monday, Sandee! Love, hug, and scritches to your kittycats, too! xo
Did my comment go?
Yes, it sure did! Thank you for the lovely questions.
Thanks for joining in again this week. Loved the hand mirror!
Other Brother gave us a paint by numbers picture one Christmas, so we did it, framed it, and gave it back to him the following year. I think that was the last gift he bought us.
Hi, Di! It’s my pleasure. Thank you for hosting! I’m glad you loved the mirror. haha
I think that was a great idea with the paint-by-numbers picture; to paint it and give it back as a present. Lovely!
This is such a delightful, personality-filled piece—it reads like a conversation you’d want to stay in a little longer.
The humor lands so naturally, especially the taco rack vs. toast rack moment—that’s the kind of unexpected twist that makes it memorable and very human. And that laughing mirror? Equal parts silly and slightly evil… in the best way 😄
Thank you, Vijay. I’m so glad you enjoyed this post and my type of humor. 😀 I hope you are having a wonderful start to your week!
Thank you so much 😊
I really did enjoy it—your humor has that easy, natural charm that just flows.
My week’s off to a good start, hope yours is too! Looking forward to more of your light, thoughtful posts—they always bring a smile 🌿
That’s lovely to hear. 🙂
only all the time
no
no
and when i turned seven the late john romine asked us all why are we here and what are we doing?
LOL It’s hard for me not to buy on a whim. 😀
I hope this day finds you well!
it s monday and i have to prepare to turn 65 in november. getting old sucks. lmao
I think so, too. lol Happy way early birthday! Mine is in November, too.
Happy Monday and Happy Timezones!! 💜
1) Hahaha! Pretty much every week. Just today, I ordered a shirt with a picture of a cat holding a book that says, “SHH!!! I’m reading!”
2) I’m sure I have, but right this second, I can’t think of any of them. Not exactly a joke, but last year, during “Shark Week,” I bought my pastor a couple of shark stress toys, because she loves sharks.
3) I don’t know if this qualifies as “silly,” but one year, our oldest daughter gave me a Fallout door mat for the front porch. It gets frequent comments from delivery people.
4) Only a couple. I didn’t really have birthday parties, and the one that I remember the most was a “party” of just me and a good friend of mine from church. My parents took us to Fort Worth to the zoo, which used to have an amusement park with rides. It was great fun. I’ve never been much of a party person.
Oh wow! I must find a shirt like that! So cute! 😀
Shark stress toys! How creative. I bet she loved them.
LOL That’s cool!
That sounds like a great bday party!
And, Happy Timezones! I hope your week is wonderful!
