Love raccoons! When I was a kid I used a humane box trap to catch wild animals. Some I’d just keep a day or two, others became pets. Always wanted to catch a baby raccoon but never did. Been trying to talk my wife into letting me buy one from a breeder. Ten years, no luck, but I’m softening her up 😂
Our garbage is typically in big bins. Any garbage bag left out is fair game to ravens, crows (in summer), pigeons and skunks, although the skunks don’t seem to be the big problem. In the mountains, the bears are the issue and garbage is in bear proof bins.
Woooow, bear proof bins! I’m picturing a huge cage with garbage bins inside. LOLOLOL Our garbage is in bins, too, but even if you tie the lid closed with a bungee cord, the raccoons know how to get it open. They are very dexterous. 😀

I would love to have a “trash panda” for a buddy. We occasionally have them in our back yard, as they sometimes come and eat the dry cat food we put out for the neighborhood ferals. They are very cute. We’ve had a couple of really big ones, lately.

Bearproof bins are metal with a special recessed release.

I have watched the racoons in Stanley Park. They are relentless in their attempts to get to the trash.
