POV: Erin Rose
One of the first things Jaron and I did after the engagement was to look at houses. I had this picture in my head of how it would go. In my imagination, we walked through bright rooms, hand in hand, discussing where a Christmas tree or a breakfast table would go. I thought it would feel dreamy and grown-up.
Spoiler alert… It did not.
The first house leaned so far to one side I felt seasick the moment we stepped inside. The realtor kept talking about “historic charm,” but all I could think about was how the whole place might slide into the neighbor’s yard if someone sneezed too hard.
The second house’s wallpaper looked as though it came from a fever dream. Every wall had a different pattern. Flowers in one room, stripes in the next, and something that looked like angry fruit in the hallway. I tried to picture myself living there, but the walls felt like they were staring at me.
By the fourth or fifth house, I was losing hope. Jaron kept trying to stay positive, but even he had moments where he rubbed the back of his neck and muttered something about “maybe we should just rent.” I pretended not to hear him because I was thinking the same thing.

Then we found it.
There was a simple charm to the house that drew me in right away. A gentle breeze set the porch swing in motion, and the soft creak of the wood settled something inside me. The front door opened into a living room that felt warm even without a single lamp turned on. The worn floors made me think of families who had lived real lives there. Not perfect ones. Real ones.

I walked through the rooms slowly, touching the doorframes, listening to the quiet. I didn’t want to say anything too soon because I was afraid of jinxing it.

When I stepped into what would become our bedroom, I saw Jaron standing there. He had his hands in his pockets and that soft smile he gets when something matters to him. He looked at me like he already knew what I was thinking.
“This feels right,” he said.
I felt my throat tighten. For once, I didn’t worry about sounding silly or sentimental. I just nodded.
“It does,” I whispered.

Hi Kymber! Brilliant chapter, loved it! 💜💜
Thank you so much, Carol Anne! xoxo
It’s like a successful episode of House Hunters 😊 Maggir
LOL Thank you, Maggie! I love House Hunters! 😀
This is such a warm and emotionally immersive piece of storytelling. What makes it especially engaging is the balance between humor, realism, and quiet tenderness.
The opening immediately feels relatable—the contrast between Erin’s romantic expectations and the chaotic reality of house hunting is both funny and human. Details like the “historic charm” house leaning sideways and the wallpaper resembling “angry fruit” add personality and charm without feeling exaggerated. Those moments make the characters feel lived-in and believable.
Thank you, Vijay. I’m glad you liked it.
