Daith Piercing Review

My right ear.

Two years ago, I was suffering from migraine after painful migraine. Although I took medications, they did not relent. They got so bad, I started researching other ways to deal with them.

In my delving, I found migraine sufferers who swore by daith piercings. They based their idea on acupuncture but I found no scientific research to base the claim upon.

After much deliberation, and finding only ice packs really helped the pain, I decided to turn again to my doctor. She said, “Why not try it? If it doesn’t work, you’ll have cool earrings to show off.”

So that was pretty much my attitude when getting pierced. I hoped for the best but expected the worst.

What is a daith piercing? you may be asking.

“…a piercing through the smallest fold of cartilage in your ear, right at the point where the outer ridge that runs along the top of your ear connects to your inner ear, just above the ear canal1.”

I’ve included pictures of both my right and left ears so you can see my piercings.

My left ear.

Did they have any effect on my migraines? I want to say, yes, they lessened in frequency, but not necessarily pain or duration. Even so, I’m glad I got them because at least now I know I have tried pretty much everything.

Now, two years later, they’ve decreased in intensity and duration, too. Was it the daiths or is my medication better now? I couldn’t tell you. The truth is, I don’t at all regret getting them done.

I don’t like being so inconclusive, but I really can’t say anymore than that, nor can I recommend anyone to get them done. All I can do is tell you how it was for me.

You’re probably wondering if it hurt getting pierced there and the answer is a resounding yes! lol On a scale of 0-10, with 10 being the most pain you could ever imagine, I’d say it was a 4. You also have to keep them really clean because they get infected easily while they’re healing.

All in all, I’m glad I got the piercings because, like my doctor said, “even if it doesn’t get rid of the migraines, you’ll still have cool earrings!”

An interesting, alternative approach! And maybe they did help, but as you said, either way, the piercings look lovely. I can imagine the pain of getting them done, though. Ouch!

LOL Yeah, it was no picnic and I had the urge to tell him not to do the second ear. But then if I didn’t have both, I wouldn’t get the full effect for what I was after. So I bucked up and got them both done that day.

I’m glad you like how they look. Thank you. 🙂

I may have to look into this! I don’t suffer migraines as badly as I used to but it’s still something I would be interested in! I have to say too, your ears are so pretty! 😍 LOL I love the way the earrings look so elegant too. ❤️

Never heard of daith piercing but I suspect my youngest daughter would have, not something I would get

I can understand that. I hadn’t really heard of them either until I started looking for other ways to deal with migraines.

You are right, they are really cool earrings, but I would be too chicken. I once had a different ear piercing, in a spot threat the phone always hit and made it hurt, or sleeping on that side. I ended up taking it out!

lol I hear you on that! With the daith piercings, you can no longer wear earbuds or anything that goes into the ear canal because the jewelry is in the way. So there is that to consider, too.

I was not familiar with Daith Piercings KymberNoodle. 👂🏻🦻👂🏻 I wouldn’t say I would get them, but I’m so glad that you tried them and now you know you’ve tried everything possible for those pesky migraines. Good luck kiddo! 🤞🏼🙌🏼👍🏼

I am a big believer in acupuncture, so the Daith piercings make sense to me. So glad you have found some relief.

I love that you said this, Jan! I’ve never had acupuncture but I do think it’s helped.

Well, I have one, and I don’t have migraines. But I cannot say it is because of the piercing.
