Sugar Cookies Before Lunch

Lyra and her Papa, The Mister

Yesterday, The Mister and I had the pleasure of taking our Middle Little, Lyra, out for the day. It was so nice to spend the day with just her. If you remember, not long ago, my friend Leah and I took the Oldest Little, Lilly, to see The Wizard of Oz as performed by Holly High School’s drama department.

Lyra was hungry so we asked her what she wanted to eat and right away, she said chicken nuggets, fries, and an apple juice. We ended up at Wendy’s where Lyra entertained us with stories about her siblings and school while we ate.

The Mister bought her a large sugar cookie which we allowed her to eat before her meal. The grandparent handbook is clear. Dessert comes first.

After we ate, we went to the NCG Trillium where The Mister bought her popcorn, SweeTARTS Share Ropes Cherry Candy, and a strawberry lemonade.

The movie we saw was called Hoppers. It was pretty good, although I thought parts of it might be scary for a 5-year-old. Lyra reassured me she wasn’t frightened at all. There were some laugh out loud moments that we enjoyed, and it was so fun hearing her having such a good time.

I asked Lyra questions about the movie, and these were her responses:

A child smiling and sitting on the floor of a movie theater beside an adult man who is focused on a snack.
Lyra with big smiles while Papa opens her candy for her.

Did you like the story?
Yes! (And she gave me a thumbs up.)

Who was your favorite animal?
King George. (She liked that he wore a crown and was funny. She also liked that he was kind and loved Mabel, the main character.)

Did you understand what Mabel wanted?
(She nodded.) The animals lost their home and she wanted to get it back.

What did you like best about Mabel?
She loved her grandma so much and her grandma loved her, too. They sat on a rock together and watched animals.

All in all, it was a good movie and a great day!

Lyra, Mimi loves you so much, and this day will forever be in my memory.

There’s a special kind of joy in being chosen for a day, and Lyra gave us that gift.

Thank you so much for reading, liking, lurking, and commenting! You are important!
