Judy Garland has always been one of my faves. She was incredibly talented and beautiful. Her life was a shame but for so long she managed to keep it hidden.
Judy was probably the greatest entertainer of the 20th century — at least, I can’t think of anyone I would put above her. Having seen almost all of her movies, I’d say my favorites are THE WIZARD OF OZ (of course), MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS, THE CLOCK, THE PIRATE, IN THE GOOD OLD SUMMERTIME, and JUDGEMENT AT NUREMBERG. I know I’ve left out A STAR IS BORN, but this is a subjective list, and while I like that film, I don’t like it as much as the others.
Yes!! Another Judy fan! It’s so good to talk to you! I love your list and I would add Summer Stock because I just love her and Gene Kelly in that one. When she sings on the porch and doesn’t know he’s there. It’s priceless. But it’s so hard to narrow it all down. lol I 100% agree with you about Judy being the greatest entertainer of the 20th century. 🙂

I have watched a lot of classic films since my teenage years. They are great to watch! Did you ever see Madame X with Lana Turner? It was so heartbreaking when I first saw it. Such a good movie. My mother and I watched it together years back.

When her daughter Liza Minnelli asked her for advice in starting her own singing/acting career, Judy told her to, “Always be a first-rate version of yourself instead of a second-rate version of someone else.”
I wish her life had been a little easier and she had lived just a little longer. xoxo

Did you read Judy’s biography? I remember my grade 7 music teacher talking about her a lot. It’s amazing that I even remember my grade 7 teacher, ha ha – he was Alec McLeod.
LOL And he was a Judy fan like me! 😀 I’ve read a few different biographies about her. Her daughter Lorna Luft wrote one of them called, “Me and My Shadows: A Family Memoir.” It was really interesting.
Mostly, I’ve been an avid fan, loving her movies and songs since about the age of 2 which was the first time I saw “The Wizard of Oz.” Then, when I was about 6, my then 9 year old sister read the entire “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz” to me. And I was hooked on all things Judy. lol
