1. What slang word or phrase is unique to your area?
2. What is your best knock-knock joke?
3. What is your favorite decade and why?
Here are my answers:
- In Michigan, if you bump into someone by accident, you say, “Ope!”
- Knock knock.

Wow, I didn’t know you could yodel! - I love old Hollywood movies, and I’m stuck in the 1930s. I love the fashion, the makeup, everything.

These are my answers:
(A) What slang word or phrase is unique to your area? I live in Texas, but I am not originally from Texas, so I might be missing some slang words. Also, a lot of Texas slang are used elsewhere. However, I think the expression “Skin your own buffalo” is pretty uniquely Texan.
(B) What is your best knock-knock joke? It is when our Pug Daisy said to our mini-Australian Sheperd Rollo “Rollo do you want to hear a joke” and Rollo answered “OK”. Then Daisy said, “Knock Knock”, and they both started barking.
(C) What is your favorite decade and why? It was the 1990’s, because I was young and a lot of good things happened. I finished my PhD, got married to my wonderful wife, and we had our three children.

None. I have zero talent for telling jokes.
Not sure if I have a favorite decade, but when it comes to historical fiction I’m drawn to books set in the late 1800s and early 1900s.

Some fun questions, this morning!
1) I feel like “y’all” is, if not mostly Texan, at least a Southern thing. And while “Bless your heart” can be a good thing to say, down here, that’s not typically a compliment or a good wish. It’s kind of like calling someone stupid or even worse, maybe saying “f you.” When I was growing up, my grandmother would use the word “dogged” (pronounced with two syllables) to basically mean “damned.” And in East Texas, they called the trunk of a car the “turtle.”

Don’t cry, it’s just a joke.
3) My favorite decade is the seventies. That’s my coming of age decade, and you would be hard-pressed to convince me that the best music came from any other decade. I mean, we’ve got Led Zeppelin, Jethro Tull, Yes, Emerson Lake & Palmer . . . I know we lose a lot of points for disco, but I think we can overcome that. LOL!! Star Wars! Star Trek (that’s when the movies started)! Monty Python and the Holy Grail!!! The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy (I’m doing books, now); Watership Down; The Stand; The Shining; Salem’s Lot; Interview with the Vampire; the list goes on and one . . .
There is something great about the 1930’s, when we worried about war but committed to not letting that ruin our lives.
