2 YEAR TIME JUMP!
POV: Erin Rose
The years had slipped by after the birth of Charlie’s baby, and in some regards, not a lot had changed for her. She was still staying at the Cushing mansion, only it wasn’t a secret anymore. After she lost the baby weight, which took longer than she thought it would, she began seeking employment. Small jobs like retail and things like that, but she never seemed to hold on to them for very long. She had also tried being part of the family again, coming around once in a while but never really engaging like the Charlie she once was. Of course, talking about the baby was off-limits. No one knew about him except me and Uncle Cushing, and Charlie was desperate that Mama never find out. I was worried about her, for sure. She seemed to have lost a piece of who she was, and for that I was sorry for her. But it was hard to feel too sympathetic when I thought about the baby she so easily gave up. I wasn’t sure I could ever forgive her for that.
As for me, I’d recently graduated from university with a degree in political science. I was looking forward to a promotion at work from Donita.
Another thing I was anticipating was the upcoming ball for the Dream Builders Foundation. The Foundation focused mainly on building tiny houses for the homeless and lower-income individuals who needed another chance in life. It was a charity Donita firmly supported, and one I would support, too, once I was more involved in my new career. Yes, someday I would be Donita! The sooner I started, the better.
My boyfriend, Jaron Green, was taking me to the ball, and lately he had been behaving… I don’t know… Almost as if he felt excited all the time…
