Hello and happy timezones, kind friends! I have greatly enjoyed your responses to my Get to Know You posts.

So, it’s time. Come sit on my porch for a spell. Tea, lemonade and refreshments will be served shortly.

Here are 3 questions! Let’s go!

Round #66:

  1. What would you be doing if you could turn your hobby into a career?
  2. Have you ever been friends with a person whose language was not your own?
  3. Have you ever eaten a food that you were convinced was disgusting, only to discover you actually loved it?

Here are my answers:

  1. I would either be singing or painting ceramics. 😀
  2. Yes, I had a dear friend in elementary school who had moved near me from Egypt. We slowly learned simple words from each other’s languages. It was a sad day when she called me and told me she was moving back to Egypt. I counted her as a close friend.
  3. Guacamole, friends. I thought it looked disgusting, but the first time I tried it, I fell in love and we have not parted ways since.

And now, it’s your turn! If you don’t want to participate, no problem! I’m just glad you’re here. A hello would be fantastic, though! Of course, lurkers are always heartily welcome, too. xo

Thank you so much for reading, liking, lurking, and commenting! You are important!

I have over 50,000 sports cards. I wish I could turn that into a business.

That would be something else if you could turn it into a business of some kind.

Dang. I thought I had missed one! Let me think . . .

1) Why, I would be a professional musician, probably singer/songwriter! Or maybe an author, because I do enjoy writing. Is there such a thing as a professional reader? LOL!

2) I’ve never had a close friend whose primary language wasn’t my own. I have had acquaintances and work associates that could be described as friends, though. And my current best friend speaks Spanish (but not her primary language), so I’m trying, once again to learn Spanish.

3) No. I’ve tried a couple that turned out to be not quite as bad as I expected, but I didn’t “love” them. I love your guacamole story. I, too, have a great love for the guac. I will judge a Mexican restaurant entirely on the quality of their guac. My wife wouldn’t try cheesecake until after we met (we may have been married by the time she finally tried it). Cheese and cake don’t go together, was her logic. Fair enough.

I would have a little place where every day except Saturday, I could cook up a soup or stew, one main course, and bake some appropriate bread to go with, and sell it to go for people who work and can’t cook. I would shop and price it so that regular people could stop in, or call for pickups, and afford it. As long as it paid for itself, I don’t want to make money from it. I just love to cook and bake, and share the food. (By this time in real life, I also would like to know someone younger was taking it over. Then I would like to pop in now and then, with permission, to cook up something or bake something, and pop out.)
I have not, the closest I’ve come is having friends with second languages.
Calf fries, otherwise known as Mountain or Rocky Mountain Oysters.

Hobby as career?
Getting paid to overthink.
Friends with language gap?
Yes. We spoke fluent confusion and snack-sharing.
Food I judged too early?
Yeah. Looked like a mistake in a bowl—now I panic when it’s not on the menu.

I have many friends with different language of mine, though I’ve only met them online. Still, I appreciate it. I have a Dutch friend I consistently talk with.

I would love to see Egypt one day. Do you still remember any of the Arabic? I’m trying to learn it but struggling to remember what I learn.

I’d be getting paid to read – a dream come true!
Sadly, I don’t think I have. I grew up in very small schools and the community wasn’t very diversified.
Oysters and mushrooms.

Love these questions! Turning a hobby into a career sounds like such a dream, currently knee-deep in some estate planning logistics with lawyers, so I guess my “hobby” right now is paperwork and legalese! 😅 But hey, it’s all part of life, right? Also, totally agree on guacamole—I underestimated it too until I tried it. 👏

What would you be doing if you could turn your hobby into a career? I’m doing it. Writing.
Have you ever been friends with a person whose language was not your own? Yes, I was friends with a Russian.
Have you ever eaten a food that you were convinced was disgusting, only to discover you actually loved it? My parents, on a limited budget, used to ask us kids if we would like to have a grub (These were shrimp). Of course, we would run screaming from the room. I found out later in life how devious they were.

Hi Kymber, if I didn’t have to work, I’d be a full time artist and writer. It’s hard fitting everything in. I have friends who speak other South African languages and I speak Afrikaans. I can’t answer the last one because I just don’t eat things I don’t like the look of 😂

Second-yes, I’m currently friends with my brother in law’s wife who is Portuguese.
Third- yes! I used to think oysters were disgusting, but now I love them!

What would you be doing if you could turn your hobby into a career? Blogging.

Have you ever been friends with a person whose language was not your own? Yes, from Mexico. We managed.

Have you ever eaten a food that you were convinced was disgusting, only to discover you actually loved it? Escargot. It has to be prepared properly and if so it’s delicious. Hazel’s made the best Escargot. They are no longer in business. I miss them so very much.

Have a fabulous day and rest of the week, Kymber. Love and hugs. ♥

Always a pleasure to get to know you better, Kymber. ❤️ My answers: Singer. Yes, I’ve had a number of friends from different countries. No, I don’t recall developing a taste for food I found disgusting.

Lovely questions and I really like your responses. Your response to the parting with a good friend was heartwarming and moving. Thank you Kymber

Here are my responses:

Eating…It would be a great life as a food critic, I feel.
Yes, a friend from the Philippines. I learned a few words in Tagalog but her English was far far better than my meagre handful of Tagalog.
Eating anything with consistent sized lumps like tapioca pudding. Which as it turns out, I now thoroughly enjoy.

Have a good one Kymber.
