Greetings, Friends! As you know, Noble Doubt is nearing its end. Generation 10 looms just around the corner.
Rather than wait until it is finished to put together my next project, I’d like to begin working on it now so there is as seamless a transition as possible.
Here is where you come in. I greatly need your opinions so I can begin outlining…
Would you rather read a story that is based in the supernatural? Or would you rather read a story without the supernatural?
I must admit that I am normally not much into supernatural or romance stories, and yet I am enthralled by what you write. You blend it so well and tell a great story. I am actually disappointed when I don’t have time to get right to the latest post. I believe you will make the right decision on where to take the story.
I’m good either direction, as you tastefully blend them together in a plausible way. For me it’s as long as you are enjoying what you are writing that counts.
Hmmmmm…I think I’d prefer something non-supernatural. But it’s a slight preference. Your stories are always so amazing to read, supernatural or non-supernatural I think will be grand. 🙂

I read both when I’m not reading simlit, and honestly either works for me as long as the underlying story is there. I’ll certainly read whatever you publish! And congrats on 10 gens. That’s amazing.

Wise to plan ahead, I agree. For my taste, the supernatural is an interesting way to go, even paranormal maybe. Don’t lose the romantic touch though. We were all made to love… I wish you success as you progress with your design. Blessings, Peter
It’s so sweet how you are ever so considerate when it comes to your readers’ opinions, Kym. But I, too, agree that you should stick to what you want to write. I purposefully decided to avoid supernatural on NDIA (you know I added ghosts and the ‘curse’ only up for interpretation and they were the only supernatural element) as world-building when there’s magic proved to be a little challenging in my previous story. But I also know some people enjoy drafting the whole universe very much. And I think you seem to be having a lot of fun with the supernatural in this gen. So if it makes you happy, then you should absolutely go with it! And it will be very interesting to see what you come up with. I don’t think we’ve ever seen another longer story by you except ND. And this one will not be a legacy, I suppose? I wonder what form you’re going to go with. Third person, first person, Sims 3 will still be used to illustrate? Ah so many questions. But it sure is going to be bittersweet to say goodbye to Noble Doubt. This story has been such a huge part of my life for a long time. And I command you for eventually making it to 10 gens and completing the classic legacy challenge! That is admirable. I wish I could say I got that far, lol

I had never written anything supernatural before, so it was loads of fun. But it also came with challenges, as you mentioned in your comment.
You’re right that this is the longest story I’ve written. And it’s been so much fun. I’m not planning on doing a legacy, no, but more of a rotation of different families interacting with one another. So I don’t plan to do a generational thing. And I’m thinking third person.
I can’t believe how long it’s taken to write. I put rules on myself that I never felt I could break, like the thirty chapters per heir. I don’t know why I chose thirty or why I felt like I couldn’t change that. lol
I know what you mean about the rules. I had many rules too and I was inspired by your legacy a lot when I began mine. I always did 22 chapters but that’s because I accidentally wrote that many for Maddie and I stuck with it. But that stability was nice too because I could plan out for every chapter because I knew exactly how many there would be. But I had to rush sooo many things especially kids. I feel like all my heirs got their kids way too young
Oooooh, I wonder if that’s the same reason I settled on 30? Good point! And another good point about being able to plan better because you knew where the beginning, middle and end were.
You know, I’ve felt rushed many times, too. Remember Kara finding the box and I had to keep postponing everything about the box? Finally when she took over as heir, I was able to delve into that, but it came way later than I meant it to.
I know what you mean about the kids being rushed. I had a couple heirs that waited longer to have their kids, and then I had to skip time to line it all up with the end of the generation.
Oh, gosh. I’d read anything from you. I prefer when you explore your characters’ inner experiences, and when your writing is character driven, about how your characters navigate the complexities of life and relationship. Whether they do that in the context of supernatural or everyday doesn’t matter to me, so I’d say just choose that which gives you the feelings you’d like to explore.
I think it’s awesome you’re already thinking about your next project! I liked the mix of supernatural with down to earth characters and plot lines so far. I guess I’d go more towards non-supernatural for the next one but that’s just me being boring! The question is, what do you feel like writing? What makes you feel creative, feel inspired? xx
Spontaneously, from the gut, I would say that a good story wouldn’t need any supernatural phenomena to be entertaining and exciting.
But while I followed Noble Doubt, there was at least a slight suspicion quite early on that something uncanny, not natural, could be at work in the background. I always enjoyed the suspense that was built up, even when there was a natural explanation at the end.
In faith, in stories, in the best books, there are often mysterious riddles and creatures that let a pleasant shudder run down our spines.
To rule out the possibility that at a certain point in your new story there is space for something not entirely human would only, in my opinion, limit you unnecessarily.
However, I’m looking forward to whatever you’ve in mind to share with us.
