Get to Know You #14!

Hello, and happy timezones, Friends! I have been enjoying your responses to my “Get to Know You” posts! Shall we begin?

Here is round 14:

  • What’s the highlight of your week?
  • What has taken you the longest to get good or decent at?
  • What topic could you give a 20-minute presentation on without any preparation?
  • Would you rather watch a movie on your TV at home or on the big screen in the theater, and why?
  • What do you wish someone taught you a long time ago?

Here are my answers:

  • I have a couple of highlights: 1. Friday night (if the Mister doesn’t have work on Saturday) the Mister and I spend a nice evening together. 2. Sundays when I see the kids and the Littles. Even though I see them during other times in the week, that time on Sunday is precious.
  • Coding my site. Back in 2016, I realized what HTML and CSS could do, so I began teaching myself how to use them. If my site wasn’t coded, it would look a lot different than it does now and I would not like it. Learning how to code more and more intricate things has taken me a long time to achieve, and I wouldn’t say I’ve arrived or anything, I know just enough to be dangerous. LOL
  • There are 2 topics I could give presentations on: 1. Music theory, and 2. how to properly document a patient’s decline so Medicare will cover their time in Hospice. I was an RN Hospice Case Manager, and I loved it. I was the weirdo among my colleagues who loved to document all the little details.
  • For me, it depends on the movie. If it’s an epic saga like Lord of the Rings, I’m going to see it in the theater. In fact, for all three of those movies, I let my kids skip school so we could go to the theater to watch them. We did the same for all of the Harry Potter movies. It was our thing.
  • I wish I’d been taught or realized the price of what it should cost to access me. I don’t have to please everyone, I don’t have to say yes when I want to say no, and I don’t have to explain my reasoning for my decisions. And, if you treat me badly, I don’t have to stay with you or put up with that. I suppose these are things you learn over time.

And now, it’s your turn! If you don’t want to participate, that is totally fine, there is no pressure. A hello would be fantastic, though! Of course, lurkers are always heartily welcome. xo

Thank you so much for reading, liking, lurking, and commenting!

  1. What’s the highlight of your week?
Before it was Sushi Thursday, now it’s just when I get to spend a little time with my daughter – be it on facetime or in RL!
What has taken you the longest to get good or decent at?
I guess CAW was a challenge. I’m giving it a go again, but I have to read through all the tutorials and stuff again…
What topic could you give a 20-minute presentation on without any preparation?
Being a teacher who has experienced schools with more or less sloppy Internet and computer connections in general, you have to be prepared to improvise. So, I guess I could talk about anything that has to do with travelling. That usually perks up the audience.
Would you rather watch a movie on your TV at home or on the big screen in the theater, and why?
Big screen in the theatre because of the whole movie feeling, with popcorn and total immersion.
What do you wish someone taught you a long time ago?
To keep my mouth shut. I’m definitely not a diplomat but I’m slowly getting there, it’s a question of survival living among over-sensitive French people! πŸ˜‰

    1. I am so behind in responses. I love your answers to the questions! I would definitely perk up to some of your travel stories. πŸ˜€ I’ve never been able to do anything with CAW. I really appreciate the work it takes to make a good world.

  2. Thank you for sharing!!.. πŸ™‚

waking up on the green side of the grass…
being different and living life by doing it my way…
play music so everyone listening can relax and connect with their inner self…
at home… have a better selection of movies and I can relax while watching..
that I am never too old to gather knowledge…

Hope you have a wonderful day, every day and until we meet again..
    May your day be touched
by a bit of Irish luck,
    Brightened by a song
    in your heart,
    And warmed by the smiles
    of people you love.
    (Irish Saying)

  3. Time when I can read whatever book I’m on at the moment. 2. Dealing with red tape. 3. Ancient Greek comedies 4. At home. You can be with friends and loved ones instead of random people. 5. Not sure.

  4. I love these. But now, your turn…
If you could, would you travel into space.
Describe a time in your life when you really wanted to cry, but knew you couldn’t.
Would you ever consider moving to another country.
How long did you grow your hair at the longest.
If anyone mistakes your age and they think you are younger than you are, do you tell them.
    My answers…
    Yes. Definitely.
At both of my sons’ weddings I had to speak. I did it, but it was tough. Very emotional time.
Another country…it would have to be just the right circumstances.
At its longest my hair was just past my shoulders. No man bun, but an occasional pony tail.
Fess up to my age? 71. Going on 72 in October. But if anyone wants to say I don’t look it, be my guest.

  5. My highlight is any time I get to see my sons. One lives in town and the other a couple hours away.
Good or decent at? Probably WordPress because it seems to change so often or develops weird quirks.
For a twenty minute presentation, probably something to do with books or movies. Maybe cats.
It all depends on the movie for me, but generally it would be in the theater.
I wish someone would have told me to focus on what I wanted to do with my life and then everything else would fall into place.
I always enjoy these posts, Kymber!

  6. What’s the highlight of your week? Spending time with family and dogs, having a beer.

What has taken you the longest to get good or decent at? Speaking English as second language or Visual C++/.NET

What topic could you give a 20-minute presentation on without any preparation? Several topics: Sweden, Robotics, Leonbergers, special relativity, elementary particles, C++, solutions to climate change, craft beers

Would you rather watch a movie on your TV at home or on the big screen in the theater, and why? I used to prefer the big screen but now a day I prefer to watch movies at home

What do you wish someone taught you a long time ago? Not to argue with strangers on internet

  7. Hi Kymber!Β  Great Q&A’s this time, as always.

The highlight of this specific week thus far was aΒ comment IΒ received from someone on my YoutubeΒ channel for the visuallyΒ impaired. Highlights of my weeks in generalΒ are Saturday mornings because it’s the one of the few times I feel fully disengaged from work, peacefully at home withΒ my wife and dog, coffee & watching the birds.

What has taken you the longest to get good or decent at?Β  I’ll swallowΒ my pride as a man and say managing my ever-changing moods, as it’s the most honest answer (still a long way to go).Β  2nd place is something I’m told I am good at (and this took me a long time) the skill of listening to people, I mean actually devoting 100% of my attention and truly listening to whatΒ someone is saying to me during a conversation,Β instead of thinking about what I want to say.

What topic could you give a 20-minute presentation on without any preparation?Β  How to not manage your moods well & how to not listen to people

Would you rather watch a movie on your TV at home or on the big screen in the theater, and why?Β  Like you, depends on the movie, but 99/100 times at home, because I don’t like people chomping on popcorn while slobbering, and looking at their phones, as I’m trying to stay engaged with a $20 movie IΒ paid for.

What do you wish someone taught you a long time ago?Β  I don’t have an answer thatΒ comes to mind for this one, but I have to tell you that I really appreciated yours for this one.. it made me think, and maybe encouraged me to be more open with my answer forΒ questionΒ 2.Β  Β

Thanks for all of your great posts!

  8. You could lecture on music theory? Even though I was a composing performer, I have always been weak in that subject ~ and beyond dunce material at the ear training. I can write and score songs that have made grown men cry, but I can’t seem to hear a single damn chord!

Poetry, now… You’d have to wrestle me off the podium at twenty minutes ~ I’d just be getting warmed up, haha!

  9. Great questions, as always. And so…
My highlight is any time the grandbaby is here.
It has taken me two years so far to realize that I have turned into my grandfather.
I could give a presentation on a few things, but most are useless. So I guess the best would be a presentation based on life in the 1950’s-1970’s Bronx.
Watch a movie at home because I have the ability to find that seat in the movies right in front of the people who never shut up.
Long ago I wish someone explained to me the art of getting old but staying young.

  10. These are really great questions! It’s cool that you have your set days for quality time with the Mister and your kids.
I highly admire you for being able to speak on music theory without preparation. That’s a very intellectual topic, so bravo!
    Here are my answers….
What’s the highlight of your week?
Since I’m a journalist, every day (and night) is different. I don’t have a set schedule.
But I honestly can say that not one moment of my adult life was wasted. I use all my time wisely, whether it’s writing or working out or being spiritual or all the fun stuff that goes along with the sweet bubble of a world I’ve created…my whole life is a highlight πŸ˜‰

What has taken you the longest to get good or decent at?
Singing and rhythm. Embarrassing yes, but I’m finally decent.

What topic could you give a 20-minute presentation on without any preparation?
Since, in addition to being a journalist, I am also a public speaker, I’ve giving quite a few presentations “on the fly” just speaking from my heart. One of the topics is “What is Love?” I have a video on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9E1fM0EVMKc

Would you rather watch a movie on your TV at home or on the big screen in the theater, and why?
Both. I watch many movies at home when I just want to chill. Especially if my husband isn’t around because I tend to like “darker” things than he does. So I can indulge in something bizarre like “Monster.” But I also love the big screen. It means date night, and that I can dress up. Recently I went to an indie screening of Eric Roberts film “My Last Best Friend” and got to meet him. It was exciting.

What do you wish someone taught you a long time ago?
I’d have to agree with what you said, 100 percent spot on!

  11. What’s the highlight of your week?
    Saturday evenings with my husband.
What has taken you the longest to get good or decent at?
    Being me.
What topic could you give a 20-minute presentation on without any preparation?
    Marriage! πŸ™‚
Would you rather watch a movie on your TV at home or on the big screen in the theater, and why?
At home, because our dogs watch with us.
What do you wish someone taught you a long time ago?
Flying. I wish I could fly an airplane.
