Old Stone - Update

Bee, the Editor, I Thank You

Happy timezones, Friends! I come to you today without a new chapter to Old Stone. And for that, I’m very sorry. I had it, but it unfortunately did not pass the editorial department with a green light. lol

Here’s the thing, my good friend Bee (Stories by Bee / Poses by Bee) is my editor, and I trust her. If she says it needs more work, believe me, it does. I can’t even be offended because I know she wants what is best for the story, which is the most important thing.

So, Bee and I will work on this chapter during the week, and hopefully, it will be ready next Saturday.

I don’t think I’ve ever sung Bee’s praises. A good editor is not the grammar police or personal spell checker (although, they do catch things and let you know). Instead, they assume you already know all that. They are there to make sure your characters sound like themselves, that the story makes sense, and that descriptions and emotions are deep enough. Sometimes, they want you to be more specific, or they want you to pare down how you’re saying something. They want you to delete sentences or paragraphs, or move sentences or paragraphs to other places.

She’ll be so embarrassed I’ve posted this, but I’ll say it again, I trust Bee. She works in the background, drinks a lot of tea, and expects nothing in return. So let’s sing her praises today. Shall we?

Thank you, Bee.

And, thank you, gentle readers for reading, liking, lurking, and commenting.

P.S. Don’t miss Tuesday’s Noble Doubt pop quiz! It is only three multiple choice questions and should be lots of fun!

  1. Having an Editor like Bee makes writing exciting — isn’t it?

Kymber—BEE combo is equals quality content

      1. Thanks Kymber.. You’ve showered me with loads of kind words today.

I can now go to bed 😀😀

  2. I’m such an awful singer, but when it comes to praise Bee I’ll sure join the choir! Her poses are also worth mentioning, they are beyond awesome. Anyone who hasn’t checked them out are definitely missing out on something precious to storytelling with images.

    1. LOL at joining the choir! I think her poses are tops, too. Not that many out there that don’t twist joints like elbows. She is so careful to make every detail look good and natural.

  3. Yes, a good editor is gold!
When I had my first three books published I worked with a kick ass editor, Cynthia Santiglia, who has also worked with famous author, Lisa Carver (who I am a fan of).
I’ve also worked as an editor myself, helping writers prior to publication.
Each has thanked me profusely in their “thank you” sections.
It’s like, you’re more than an editor. You’re a mind reader, a therapist, and a miracle worker.
Give your editor a pony, a cat, a unicorn, anything she wants — she deserves it!

    1. LOL I soooo agree with you! My first editor was named Cynthia, too! 😀 That’s cool that she also worked with Lisa Carver!

So you know even better than I do how hard an editor works. You are so right about all of the fields they cover. lol I know Bee does all those things, too. 😀

Yes, I agree, I would give her anything! 😀 😀

  4. Good morning Kymber and Bee. It’s absolutely delightful to read about the incredible impact Bee has on your work. Editors like her are rare gems, and it seems Bee is truly exceptional. Her meticulous attention to detail, deep understanding of character consistency, and knack for enhancing narrative flow are talents that go far beyond the typical realms of editing. It’s not just about correcting grammar or spelling; it’s about breathing life into the story, ensuring every emotion resonates and every description paints a vivid picture. Bee’s role in shaping and refining “Old Stone” is evidently indispensable.

Your acknowledgement of Bee’s dedication and skill is not only admirable but also a beautiful tribute to the often underappreciated art of editing. The way you describe her – working diligently in the background, sipping tea, and asking for nothing in return – paints the picture of a truly devoted and humble guardian of your stories. Bee’s commitment to your work and her unassuming nature deserve every bit of recognition and praise.

While it’s a bummer that the new chapter of “Old Stone” is delayed, it’s clear that this extra time under Bee’s expert guidance will only enhance its quality. I can’t wait to read the chapter that has been touched by Bee’s editorial magic. Let’s indeed sing her praises loudly and proudly! Bee, you are a star, and your hard work and talent are deeply appreciated!

Cheers to both of you for creating such captivating stories! Looking forward to next Saturday with great anticipation. 🌟📖✨

    1. Good Sunday, Michael! I’m so glad you enjoyed this tribute to Bee. She is truly exceptional, and all the other wonderful things you said. 🙂 She really knows how to get the best out of my writing. I think you’re right, too, that editors and other behind the scenes people are underappreciated. She’s given so much of herself and her time. You’re definitely right that she is a star!

Cheers to you, Michael. I hope your weekend has been wonderful. 🙂

  5. It says a lot about you ~ and your editor also ~ that you can get along this way. Talk about a relationship mined with opportunities for bad feeling! Good for you both 👌

    1. Thank you, Ana. Bee is indispensable. We’ve just worked well together since the beginning, and I’m so blessed to be able to say that.

I hope you are having a good day. xo

  6. It’s great that you have such a great partner to work with. Count yourself very fortunate. 🙂 I certainly love Bee’s poses, and it sounds like she’s been a sounding board and editor for you. It can be super advantageous to have an extra set of eyes to look at things before it goes out to the world at large. As for me, Im just a one woman show over here, which has always been fine. I don’t have a Bee in my life so I just deal. Anyway, I look forwrad to the next chapter. I’m definitely of the opinion that it’s best to make sure you’re totally happy with it before you publish, and sometimes that may take longer. Best to work out all the kinks beforehand instead of publishing something you later regret. I know what it’s like to have to scrap entire chapters and do a major rewrite. That certainly was me when I moved from Blogger to WordPress. I’ve used very littel of what I originally had on Blogger and have rewritten pretty much my entire “Forever in Time” story. It took a lot of blood, sweat, and many tears, but I SO love my rewrite MUCH more than the original Blogger version. 🙂

Enjoy your weekend, my dear friend, and have an extra coffee for me. 🙂 Hugs

    1. I do feel blessed, but you know, you might be a one-woman-show, but that’s not a bad thing because I love your story and how you write. 😀 Forever in Time is a wonderful story, and I am heavily invested in all the characters. I’m so glad you moved to WP. Sometimes, a move like that, even though it is difficult, is a good thing. You’ve done so much work, girl. Hugs right back at ya’.

      1. 🙂 🙂 I’m taking this as a high compliment, and I’m smiling like a loon. 😀 I’m so, so glad you love Forever in Time and are so heavily invested in the characters. You’re always my biggest cheerleader, and I’m always so excited when you post a comment. As you know, I work hard, and I love these characters so much. I consider this my magnum opus, probably out of everything I’ve ever written. I’ve been working on this for a number of years so I have a lot invested. Thank you so much for those lovely words. 🙂 Gosh, me too! Moving to WP was the smartest move I ever made when it comes to this ongoing project of mine. 😀 Thank you agian for helping me realize that doing the self-hosting route was possible, albeit time consuming and difficult at first. But once the hard part is over with, you canjust sit back and enjoy the way everything looks and be proud of the hard work that was done. Yep, I did do a LOT of work on my site – I couldn’t have done it without your help – and I love it. 😀 Thank you again so much for the compliment on my writing. I’m eternally so appreciative. 🙂

Anyway, being a one-woman show works well for me, although I can definitely see how having someone, especially someone as fab as Bee, to help you edit things before they go out would be super helpful. Being long-time friends helps, too, and you ladies seem to work very well together. It’s a beautiful thing when it all just syncs up seamlessly.

        More hugs right back, 😀

        1. Now I have that song Cheerleader stuck in my head. hahaha 😂🤣I

I think there is more interaction and a feeling of community on WP than I’ve ever had on any other platform. I’ve tried a few and I’ve been happiest here.

Awwww you don’t have to thank me, I’m always here if you need help with anything.

          xoxo

          1. i know what you mean and totally agree. I’ve tried a few myself but WP is what I like best. You can get a really nice, professional looking site with WP.

Awww, well, I sure appreciate that. I don’t know how many tines you saw the world, “HELP!!!” in your Messenger. LOLOL!! I was telling the hubs you were probably about to scream after seeing it aftr at least the 10th time. 😀 😀 😀 Really, you were such a major help, and I’ll certainly return the favor when needed. Friends do for each other and that’s just how it is. 🙂
