My Victorian Vision

As many of you know, we moved into an old Victorian Italianate a couple of years ago. Since then, we’ve been restoring, renovating, and trying to decide what to do with different rooms.

First, some pictures of the house:

A small detail

A lot needs to be done yet as these pictures were only a small glimpse of the house.

Well! At least we finally have a palette to work with:

Our color palette…

Do you like it?

And these are some pictures I’ve gathered to take inspiration from!

What do you think?

    1. Thank you so much! And it’s so good to see you, btw. 🙂 I’m so glad you love it. Around here, the Victorians are hard to find, too. Once people have one, they don’t seem to move after that. lol The red chandelier used to be a gas lamp. After we moved in, we found the crystals for it, very carefully wrapped up in one of the closets. 🙂

  2. The house looks lovely. I know it is exciting to decorate and coordinate designs and patterns. I love the dining area with the paintings and the French doors.

There are nicely adorned items around in your home.

    1. Thank you so much, Miss Latoya! It’s definitely exciting, that’s true. I’m so glad you love the dining room. There’s a bit more on the walls now, but I still want to paint in there and wallpaper, too.

  3. Wow! The light is amazing! You’ve really been doing a great job decorating. The red glassware intrigues me, tell me about it, please, it’s beautiful.
I just love the peacock art nouveau lamp, it really goes well with the curtains in rich green that was favoured in the end of the 19th century. Your dining room and library with lots of pictures, look very inviting, just the place to have the family gathered. And that glass door, and the parquets….
The colour palette looks perfect – soft creamy tones and some spicy highlights. The inspiration pics are also great, I really fancy the pink flower print.

We’re also restoring, an old château built in 1664. Hard work, but so rewarding when you see the result. I’ve had the living room painted a dark blue, the ceiling included. Makes the decoration stand out, and the darkness is soothing. We’ve been living here for a year and only the second floor is almost done, we still have to tear down a few walls to make a modern kitchen and dining area, but at least we now have heaters in all rooms, and hot water 😂

Thank you for sharing pics of your home, it really is lovely!

    1. Awww thank you so much! I’m so glad you like what we’ve been doing here. Are you talking about the red glass on the dining table? Or the cranberry glass on top of the cabinet in the dining room? Or the red glass in the library? lol I’m sorry.

The red glass on the dining table is called “ruby red.” It’s a type of depression glass.

The cranberry colored glass on top of the cabinet is called “cranberry opalescent.” A lot of it, but not all of it, was made by Fenton back in the 1940s or so.

The red glass on the stand in the library is called “amberina glass.” Amberina is a type of two-toned glassware, which was originally made from 1883 to about 1900.

I used to have a vintage and antique glass shop called The Glass Slipper. That was many years ago, though.

Your château sounds really lovely.. I’d love to see pictures of it. History is something I love to delve into and your château interests me. 🙂

  4. That’s a gorgeous house. Congratulations! However, renovation is tough. It takes a lot of time and work and money. We’ve been renovating our house for the last 1 1/2 year and it is finally coming to an end.

    1. Thank you so much, Thomas. 🙂 You are so right about how tough renovation is. The projects never seem to end. lol I’m so glad your renovation is seeing a completion now. 🙂
