Walter’s Reaction! (It’s the 20s!)

20

It was Sunday, October 1, 1922 when Walter and Viola St. Dennnis went to the Stork Club for dinner, drinks, and dancing. Afterwards, they still had time to catch a picture show.

Viola was quite excited to see *Lorna Doone starring Madge Bellamy. Madge was Viola’s favorite actress and she saw every picture she appeared in.

So far, the critics loved Madge Bellamy in the role of Lorna Doone, and Viola had made sure she’d read the novel the picture show was based on.

As far as the picture’s poster went, she could stare at it all day!

“Darling, you’re freezing,” Walter said as he began to take his coat off to put around her.

He was always such a gentleman, even after eight years of marriage.

She was chilly, it was true. She’d been reckless to wear a sleeveless dress on such a rainy night in October, but it was Walter’s favorite. She wanted to look lovely for him because she still hadn’t told him about her pregnancy.

She’d decided to wait until he’d had a few drinks at the nightclub, certain he would be in a good mood when she dropped the bomb on him.

“Keep your coat,” she said with as pleasant a voice as she could muster even though her nerves were shot.

Walter regarded her with loving eyes and smiled slightly.

“Vi,” he began, “why are you so afraid to tell me you are with child?”

Her eyes must have been the size of saucers as she gulped back her surprise.

“How on earth did you know?”

He smiled fully now and took both her hands in his, kissing each one with a tenderness that soothed all her fears.

“Well,” he said, “I know the signs, and you are absolutely radiant. Besides, I just thought this was something you do every year or so.”

She laughed at his joke, her anxiety melting away, her shoulders relaxing.

Walter continued, “I adore and cherish you, Vi. Just as I adore and cherish our children. This one will be most welcome in our family.”

Viola loved Walter more than she had ever loved anyone and tonight proved to her that they were meant for one another.

Hello, again Friends! I wanted to explain that these little forays into the St. Dennis family and the Willoughbys are more about my game play than writing an actual story. That is why these entries are so short. I use what happens in my game, and imagine what they might be saying. Sometimes I post funny things that happen, other times, it’s like this entry. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed playing and writing it.

Thank you to Bee (Stories by Bee / Poses by Bee) who edited this little story.

And thank you, kind readers, for liking, lurking, reading, and commenting.
