Featured Author, an Interview with Rosie

grape-and-vanessaHappy Timezones, friends! Guess what? I did an interview with the author and creator of many Sims stories, Rosie (Stories by Rosie)! And now you get to see her terrific answers!

I can tell you that Rosie’s stories are all good and I do read them all. The chapters are on the shorter side because each one is written in the first person of a different character. I find this to be especially refreshing because you get to go inside the mind’s of everyone eventually which means the story is very rounded. I love seeing the story from different POV. Also, she rotates her stories which is fun, too!

So, let’s begin!

How long have you been playing The Sims and what got you into it? I’m going to say I was around 11 or 12 because I did play the first one somewhat, but not by myself. My brother played the game and I watched him for a while until he let me put it on my computer to play. So you could say he was the one that got me into it, and we loved putting video game characters into the game and making strange stories.

kc-and-kyleWhy did you begin blogging your sims story? Honestly, I’ve tried many times before this one. I just really love writing dramatic tales about characters I’ve had in my head for years. I started my other blogs before with hopes of sharing with other people and that they’d like them, but that never went well because I tried way too hard to be liked. Now I do it entirely for me and I think that helps motivate me to keep going the most.

How do you come up with your story ideas? Random scenes from things I watch or read. Sometimes I even dream about something, wake up and say, “that’s an interesting concept! I’m going to put that into a story somehow!” I just draw from everything around me, or from my own experiences. I never thought I was one of those people, but there really is a lot of me in some of my characters. I won’t say which has the most of me, though. Best to keep that a secret! 😉

Do your sims actions help create new ideas or make the story go in a different direction then you had intended? Yes! I use to play and let things in game create ideas, but now I sort of have a direction I want everything to go. However, my Sims still have a way of putting their two cents in, even though free will is off! I can’t deny them their voice.

noah-and-jennyWhat was an early experience where you learned that language had power? When I read on my own for the first. I can’t really remember the first book I ever read, but I know I was almost a preteen when I first learned how to read. I mostly was happy to be able to read the sentences in video games when I played with my brother. You wouldn’t know it by reading what I write now, but I loathed reading and writing for the longest time. I preferred playing with my toys.

What chapter has been the most difficult to write so far, and why? Since I don’t think mine are really long to be chapters, I’m going to talk about a part as a whole instead. I think the hardest part I had to write was part three of Only One Wish. Not because it was dealing with anything dramatic, but because I literally rewrote it twice and I’m still not sure I’m happy with the beginning where Sebastian and Kelly reunite. I feel like I rushed things, but part of me also thinks it works for them since they only knew each other for a while as children before Kelly decided he liked him.

Is there anything you wish was different about your story? I mostly just wish the beginning of Only One Wish wasn’t so all over the place. I didn’t know exactly what I wanted to do then, so it feels disjointed to me. I’m just nitpicking myself, though!

Do you have advice for any other writers who may just be starting out? From personal experience, don’t let numbers dictate your enjoyment of your own story! Do it for you and if no one is interested, that’s no big deal. As long as you love it, then that’s all you need!

sebastian-and-kellyWhat are the challenges of bringing your characters to life? Whether or not I’m giving them the same personality traits sometimes. I have a lot of characters in my head and lots of stories planned, but sometimes I feel like maybe they’re a bit similar in some ways. I also don’t want to make them out to be Mary-Sues or Gary-Stus. I’m always constantly thinking about how this character is different from that one, and what flaws they have to make them more human. Of course, I am using Sims as a medium, so I don’t try to be too realistic. It’s Sims!

What made you decide to sit down and actually start something? My characters made me do it! I know that sounds crazy, but I have so many that are always demanding to be in the forefront of my mind. I was always on and off with writing before I started this wordpress. For the longest time, I was keeping to myself. One day I just had enough of being reclusive and decided to give blogging a try again. I guess I’m happy with the results this time. I don’t see me quitting anytime soon!

Thank you, Rosie, for the great interview! One of the things I love most is learning how different authors go through the process of writing, and your answers provided a lot of understanding.

  1. Aww, time to read about another writer’s perspective yet again!
Rosie feels like she’s similar to me in a lot of ways, in how she perceives writing etc. I haven’t read anything of hers yet, but I will certainly have to give it a try some time. It’s just that I have a lot of my mind at the moment and barely keep up with my own story!
That was a fun interview to read. 🙂
