Chapter 2.26: Dear J, Ground Rules

21
Dear J, as Leela started showing, it was imperative that we had a talk with the girls about their soon to be sibling. I suspected they had already guessed as Leela had begun wearing looser clothing, but we figured it wouldn’t hurt to have a family discussion.
You may be wondering what happened with Blue since I last picked up my pen. To make a long story short, I let her cool her heels in her room and didn’t have a talk with her until the next morning. Ruby had shown her mother the articles Blue had clipped from the papers, so I was armed with the information I needed when I talked to Blue.
I’ll admit, I was kind of hurt that my daughter would believe such nonsense about me. In all honesty, I don’t think I’m capable of cheating on Leela. Sure, we’re newlyweds, but for the past several years, Leela has occupied my every thought. It helps that she’s my best friend.
Anyway, Blue was really tearful and appeared to be full of remorse when I explained to her where the photos of me and Chrissy were from and that I’d barely seen her over the years. I hope now, after our discussion, it’s painfully obvious to her that writers like that will make up anything to sell their stories. As best as I could, I emphasized that rumors do not equal truth and that it was best to not even read the rags.
Blue seemed to come around. We hugged as she wept and told me she was sorry. I told her how much I love her and reassured her that nothing could ever change that. Furthermore, I love my family deeply and now that I have it, I’ve realized it’s all I ever wanted.
22
Ruby’s voice snapped me out of my thoughts.
” – this is so exciting! We’re going to spoil him or her rotten! Right, Blue?”
I sneaked a look at Blue, willing her to be as enthusiastic as her step-sister. But all she did was shrug.
23
As if she didn’t notice, Ruby continued with her unbridled fervor, “OMG! Do you have names picked out? Whether it’s a boy or a girl, I think you should continue the color theme! How about Hunter, Gray or Cerulean if it’s a boy?” Glancing at Blue, she asked, “What’s a good color name for a girl?”
24
This brought a small smile to Blue’s lips. “I like Olive.”
Olive? I repeated the name in my head and all I could think of was the gangly, awkward girlfriend of Popeye.
26
“Olive’s a nice name,” I lied, sure that Blue saw right through me. “What about Scarlett?”
25
“We already have a Ruby!” Blue argued. “What’s wrong with Olive? I love that name. Maybe I’ll name my first little girl Olive.”
Maybe I should have let her watch more TV growing up.
“Olive is beautiful,” Leela said. “I like that name a lot.”
“Me, too,” Ruby agreed.
Maybe the baby will be a boy. We wouldn’t know until he or she was delivered, however, because Leela decided she didn’t want to know and that was fine with me. This was a surprise I could live with.
16
After our family meeting broke up, I noticed Blue had her car keys and so I stopped her. “Where are you going?”
“Out.”
This again? Lately, Blue had kept me on a seesaw. We were up, then we were down. With her, though, I never knew what end I was on.
“Specifics, please.”
17
She made a melodramatic show of sighing and rolling her eyes, something which annoyed me to no end, I’m afraid.
“Just out. I want to go for a drive.”
18
“What about Ruby?”
“What about Ruby?” Blue sneered. “I just want to go for a drive! I don’t have to take Ruby with me everywhere I go!”
“What has gotten in to you?” I asked with a quiet but stern voice.
“Nothing! I just don’t need you asking me questions every time I turn around! It’s like you don’t trust me.”
Wordlessly, I held my hand out in front of me, palm up. I’d had enough and she knew exactly what I wanted.
With another loud sigh, she slapped the keys into my hand.
“This is so ridiculous!” she screeched, piercing my brain like a stabbing knife.
“You’re right about that!” I agreed.
19
Within minutes, I had Blue standing in the corner. She was still really angry but she begrudgingly obeyed me.
20
I really felt like this was getting out of hand. Was this normal teenaged behavior? It boggled my mind. We’d always been so close but it seemed now like she was another person entirely. The defiance and anger were at the forefront but once in a while, I saw glimpses of my little girl.
Puzzled and perplexed, I sat down, pretending to read the newspaper, but really making sure she stayed where she was supposed to.
1
Later after lunch, I sent Blue to clean her bedroom and bathroom. It was the price she would pay until I thought of something better. Ruby sympathized with Blue and I caught her helping clean out Blue’s closet.
“This is Blue’s problem,” I gently told her. “Why don’t you write some more of your poetry or something?”
Once I was sure the girls were occupied, I joined Leela outside in the gazebo. We had invited Chrissy over to try to get some things worked out. Blue knew about this but didn’t want to see Chrissy, which was fine with me.
2
As I approached the table, I could see (and hear) that Leela was already working herself up.
“…. and we cannot have that again!”
3
“But I – ”
“I’m not finished,” Leela said, using her pointer finger like a certain aunt of mine likes to do. “Blue has been through a lot and now she’s adjusting to having me and Ruby here full time. She doesn’t need you popping in unannounced and upsetting things.” Before Chrissy could protest, Leela continued, “Before you misunderstand me, I want to say that I do think it’s important for you to be in her life. But the way you’re going about it is all wrong.”
“Well, what do you want me to do already? I’ve gone through rehab and I’m straightened out.”
4
“First of all, I want you to stop telling her things that aren’t true. You and I never had an affair. I don’t know why you would have told her that.”
Chrissy’s eyes grew huge as she listened to my accusation. “I didn’t tell her that!” After thinking for a minute, she said, “I only said something about how much we loved each other and how we were a family now because that’s what we always wanted.”
Now my eyes grew huge. “But that’s a lie, too!”
She glanced away from me and began nervously picking at her thumbnail. “I didn’t know you were engaged to Leela. I thought we had a shot.”
“You didn’t know because you just showed up out of nowhere without talking to me first. Not to mention that even thinking you and I had something romantic going on was just a figment of your imagination.”
5
“Well, ouch, Leo, that hurts!” Chrissy exclaimed. “I understand all of that now. I really do.”
Both Leela and I regarded her with skeptical expressions. I really wanted to believe Chrissy was coming around but she’d caused so much trouble recently and every time I believed her, I found out later how stupid I was.
6
“This isn’t the way to move forward. We need to forget the past and figure out what to do about the future,” Leela said. “Where do we go from here? What is it you actually want, Chrissy?”
Ah, the voice of reason. What did Chrissy want and why hadn’t I ever asked her that? Then I remembered it was probably because she always told me within minutes of seeing her what she wanted…. clothes, money, a hotel room…
7
Chrissy actually seemed to be giving it some serious thought because she didn’t answer right away.
“Well,” she began, “I want us to be a family.”
8
“But what does that mean to you? How do you see that working?” Leela prodded.
“I know we won’t always agree on everything, and I know I’ve made lots of mistakes, but I guess I thought I could move in and be Blue’s mom.”
This was unreal. “Ummm…. no!” I yelled, making the ladies jump. “We can’t live together. Have you lost your mind?”
9
“It seemed like a good idea…”
I opened my mouth and tried to speak but all that came out was a jumbled mess of sputtered words. Thankfully, Leela took over again. And she was calm.
“It’s not,” Leela assured her. “Here’s the thing, Chrissy, sometimes I think you’re beyond reason. This entire conversation just seems so surreal.”
“You said you wanted to work with me. You told me you supported me being in Blue’s life.”
10
“Yeah,” I said, finally finding my voice. “That’s true. But what Leela’s trying to say is that too much time has gone by in Blue’s life. She’s going to be a young adult soon and you’re just now coming in and wanting to be her mother. The hard fact is that for the past several years, Leela has been there for Blue. You haven’t been there for her even once. Leela’s not Blue’s biological mother, but she’s a mother figure in her life.”
“You can’t just replace me and cut me out!”
“No one’s cutting you out, Chrissy. You cut yourself out. Can’t you see that? How many years did you have to get cleaned up and come back to be a mother? You’ve had Blue’s whole life to do that! Why are you just doing this now?”
“I only just realized what I’ve missed, I guess,” she said. “I’m her mother.”
Firmly, I said, “No, you’re not. You’re the woman that gave birth to her. You didn’t raise her and she barely even knows you. Since you’ve been back, all you’ve done is upset things in her life. If you want to get to know her now, we can work on that, but you can’t be a mother to her after all these years. It’s too late.”
11
Raising her hands in the air as if she had just come up with a solution to all our problems, she said, “I have the answer!”
“Let’s hear it.” Even as I spoke those words, I had a feeling in my gut that I didn’t really want to hear it.
“I’ll go away for good if you buy me a house in Champ Les Sims. I’ve always wanted to live in France. Of course, I’ll require a monthly stipend, too. After all, you can’t have the mother of your child sleeping on a park bench.”
12
“How did she do that?” I asked later, shaking my head. “How did she turn everything around like that? It’s as if that’s what she was after all along.”
Surprisingly, Leela wasn’t sharing my sour mood. “I believe she was. I had to laugh, though, when you told her to get a job.”
Smirking, I said, “Well, every time I pay her way, she just wants more. Now that Blue is older, it’s time all of that stopped. It’s not like she could fight me for custody or anything. The worst she could do is make a pest of herself.”
“She’s good at that,” Leela agreed.
13
“So, why are you all smiles?”
She grinned even wider. “The baby is kicking like crazy today. I think he or she wants to be a rock star like daddy.”
“Oh no,” I said, “this kid is going to be smart like you and own a business empire.”
14
She laughed as I put my hand over her baby bump. Sure enough, I felt movement and some kicking. It surprised me at first but then it delighted me. Leela was right, this was enough to put Chrissy in the back of my mind instead of in the forefront.
15
We were discussing dinner when my phone rang. “Hello?”
“Mr. Capra? This is Shelly from Dr. Winter’s office.”
“Oh, hi.”
“Hi,” Shelly said with a pleasant voice. “I was calling to let you know that Dr. Winter can’t perform your procedure for some months as his mother is ill and he’s going to be with her.”
Trying to hide my disappointment, I said, “Tell him I wish the best for him and his family.”
“Who was that?” Leela asked as I shoved my phone back into my pocket.
“Shelly from Dr. Winter’s office.”
Leela frowned as I told her about the conversation. “Hopefully by then you’ll have your head on straight and decide not to do it after all.”
Not wanting to ruin her happy mood and the moment we’d just shared, I said, “Yeah, maybe.”
27
As dusk began to fall, I saw Blue by the pool outside. I hurried into my swim trunks and sat next to her.
“Your room looks great,” I told her, giving her a sideways glance.
“Thanks,” she murmured.
28
“Honey, what’s going on with you? I thought we had things hammered out and then you had that outburst today.”
Her green eyes filled with tears but she wasn’t really crying. “Oh, Daddy, I know I’m a mess right now. You just can’t understand.”
29
“I want to, though. I really do.”
She let out a soft sigh, not the dramatic type of sigh she’d been prone to in the past few weeks. “I don’t know how to explain it all. But I feel kind of scared. Scared to grow up. And sad, too.”
“What are you sad about?”
30
She shrugged then scratched her nose.
“If you don’t talk to me, I can’t help fix what’s wrong,” I reasoned.
“I don’t want to hurt your feelings.”
“You won’t hurt my feelings, honey,” I said softly. “I just want us to be like we used to.”
She hesitated for so long, I didn’t think she was going to say anything. Finally, in a very quiet voice, she said, “I didn’t know you and Leela would have your own kids.”
I watched a bird hopping around on the nearby grass for a few minutes as I thought about what she was telling me. Was it jealousy? Or the fear of being replaced?
“This baby is very important to me. Ruby is very important to me.”
“I know.”
“But Blue, you are everything to me. No other child could ever stand in for you. Don’t you know that I have enough love in me for all of you?”
31
Instead of responding, with tears in her eyes, she nudged me out of my chair and gave me a tight hug.
I patted her back and kissed her cheek and when she finally smiled, I pushed her into the pool….
32
… where we swam and played the rest of the evening.

  1. Oh good grief! Chrissy, what the HELL are you WEARING?!?!?! Yeah, you’re really going to Impress people with that emoji outfit. Just like a little kid…and your actions totally go right wih what you’re wearing. I can’t believe the nerve of her though! Well, actually I can because her true colors always come out. I’m just so glad Leo didn’t fall for it this time and I was laughing so hard when he told her to get a job. LMAO!

The emoji outfit is cute though…for a teenager or child. Was it a piece of CC you got or simply a pattern you used for a game based piece of clothing?

Well…at least Blue knows she’s a mess. Los of changes happening and that’s hard for a young girl, especially one with some fragile tendencies. I like the name Olive but I guess I was like Leo and thought of Popeye and Olive Oyle. LOL. I went to one of those silly laundry parties years and years ago and there was a little icebreaker with a quiz you took. One of the questions was:
Which couple best resembles your relationship with your significant other?
    A) Bogie and Bacall
    B) Bonnie and Clyde
    C) Fred and Wilma
    D) Popeye and Olive Oyle

And would you believe that one of the ladies actually picked D? ROTFLMAO!!! I swear, I laughed for five solid minutes. 😀😀😀

And OMG, Judy Garland…one of the greatest greats.

    • LMAO @ you’re reaction to Chrissy’s outfit! hahahahaha I was hoping for that. She’s such a juvenile. haha

The dress is a piece of CC made by art-sims. Their Tumblr isn’t there anymore, but the download is still available, as far as I know. You can find it here: Emoji Mini Dress.

No way! Someone actually said Popeye and Olive Oyle? LOLOL Oh, dear. I would laugh for five solid minutes, too!

Judy Garland is my queen. 😀

      • Oh, I know! When I saw that thing on her, I was like, “Good heavens! Have you lost your already puny mind?” I’m glad you enjoyed my reaction and got a good laugh. 😁 On, and thanks for the limk! I definitely MUST have that in my game.

Yep, they certainly did. I was DYING. Fred and Wilma’s is one thing, but Popeye and Olive Oyle…LOLOL!!!!

  2. And once again, Chrissy demonstrates her undeserved sense of entitlement. Haha, move in with Leela and Leo?
A house in Champs Les Sims?
Loved that Leo finally got through to what’s bugging Blue. Ruby is such a positive influence on her!

    • I love Ruby to pieces. She’s such a good person. <3

Oh, Chrissy kills me. haha You said it perfectly with “her undeserved sense of entitlement.” I could not have said it better.

  3. Ok, Blue is in the clear again (is that the right expression?)! I kinda like her more now, but she shouldn’t feel jealous of a baby, she’s not a kid anymore! I hope she’ll eventually come around.
But Chrissy…she really is the lowest of the low! I mean, the nerve! I hope we will never have to see her again!
Oh, and Leela has indeed some similarities with Keniesha! She’s a fiery lady! 😀

    • I hope you’re right about Blue, but we shall see. 😀 I agree with what you said about Chrissy. She is a piece of work! As for Leela, I’m glad you noticed that! haha

  4. Oh Chrissy, I just don’t even know about you anymore! She amuses me greatly. XD Anyway, so glad Blue got that off her chest. Let’s have some smiles now, huh!?

    • Chrissy kills me. LOL I’m glad Blue got that off her chest, too, but I don’t know about the smiles. Hopefully, they come back soon. 🙂

  5. Cute ending! I hope this is the beginning of better days for them. And Chrissy? She is a trip lol. Did he buy her the house? I hope not lol.

  6. Blue is one of the most moody teenager ever. She’s like a yo yo, up and down and all over the place. I hope she learns to talk to her dad when she reads thins in the tabloids. It would really save her and him a lot of grief.
Chrissy is the worst. The only thing she wanted was money from Leo. I doubt she ever had ant intentions of being part of Blues life other than to see how much she could get out of it but being annoying and causing trouble. I doubt we’ve seen the end of her. So glad that Leela was there.
Awe felt kind of bad for Blue being somewhat jealous of a baby. It’s one thing to share her dad with her friend but another to a baby. I’m glad they talked. I have a feeling that Blue is heading for trouble the way she overreacts yo almost everything and her refusal to talk about things until she’s at explosive levels.

    • Thank you, dandylion 🙂 Blue is indeed moody. And I agree that Chrissy is the worst. It’s a good thing Leela knows how to handle her. I’m really glad Blue and Leo talked, too, but I also have a feeling that you’re right about her heading into trouble.

  7. So that was Chrissy’s plan this whole time!? Get as much money from Leo as she possibly could!? She never cared about Blue!!
PS- Chrissy you are too old to be wearing an emoji dress!!!
I am glad to see that Blue is starting to open up a little to her dad.
And I know that I am about a week late, but Happy New Year!!! Here’s to a happy and healthy 2017!!!

    • hahahaha! Thank you so much 😀 Yes, she’s too old for that outfit, for sure! LOL I cracked up when I dressed her. 😛 I know, I’m mean, but it just seemed to fit the situation somehow. And Happy New Year! May the new year bring you joy and blessings. 🙂

    • Goodness, talk about a late reply. I’m so sorry I missed your comment, so better late than never, right? 😀 <3 And your assessment of Chrissy is spot on!

  8. Chrissy was never doing it all for Blue, but for the money! I can’t believe she asked for a house! She said she wanted to be a mother to Blue, yet she would leave that for a house in Champ Les Sims!
I hope Blue will realise that Leo will love the baby and her equally! And I’m glad Blue doesn’t still think Leo is having an affair with Chrissy!
    Great chapter! 🙂

    • Thank you so much, shannynlee 🙂 I actually did want Chrissy to redeem herself but then I thought about all of the problems other characters have because of her and the game also just didn’t want to seem to go there. I’m glad Blue has come around some, too. I hope she can realize that Leo has enough love for her and the new baby, but I have a feeling Blue’s life isn’t going to be easy for a while. lol

  9. I knew all along Chrissy was gold digger. From the moment she showed up once she found out Leo was rich. So glad Leo and Leela didn’t give in and give her that house in France they would have never had peace if they had.
I feel sorry for Blue struggle through teenage angst and having to adjust to a new baby. So glad she did that nonsense about her dad cheating taken care of though. She should have known better though. I mean she maybe still a teen but even at her age she should know not to believe everything you see and read in gossip mags.
I things will finally settle down for a bit and they can all just be happy and have a normal family life for a while.

    • Thank you, Lil. 🙂 I’m really glad Leo and Leela didn’t give her anything this time either. I agree that they would never have peace if they had. I also feel sorry for Blue. She is really struggling right now to find her place and with the addition of the new baby, she may be even more uncertain. I’d like to see them as a happy family, too, for a while, but you know me. LOL 😛

  10. My mouth flew opened when Chrissy suggested “moving in” !! 😵. What a wacko! I am very glad Leo didn’t give in this time, and get her a house. That wouldn’t satisfy her for long. If she really wanted to be in Blue’s life, she would never have asked for a house in another country! I had to laugh at Blue standing in the corner! 😁 Being a teenager is rough, and I hope she knows her father would have enough love for all of them. Happy New Year!! 🎉

    • Thank you, Marj. 🙂 Wasn’t that ballsy of Chrissy to demand that? She is a whack-a-doodle for sure! lol You’re so right also that buying her a house wouldn’t satisfy her for very long, then she’d only come back with the next thing she wanted. I laughed when Blue got stood in the corner, too. In fact, it happened twice on the same sim day in game. Leo put her there, then only a few minutes later, Leela sent her back. 😛 Being a teenager is rough, that’s true, and I hope she would know Leo can love them all without trouble. But, Blue has that Chrissy-like tendency to overreact and act hastily. So we will see. 🙂

  11. I think, the next time Chrissy decides to make an appearance, Leo and Leela should just call the cops. She’s just trying to milk them for money.
I understand why Blue is feeling weird about the new baby though. She and Leo have this really tight bond, and I think she’s scared of it disappearing.

    • Thank you, Violincat. 🙂 That is a very good idea about calling the cops. I think they are justified to do that since talking to her doesn’t seem to do any good. I’m glad it’s understandable why Blue is feeling the way she does. You are so right about her being afraid of losing that bond with Leo. Let’s hope that nothing happens to make her doubt it again.

  12. Happy New Year! I’m glad Leo is developing a backbone and refusing to give Chrissy everything she demands just because she’s Blue’s mother. And Blue has very normal fears about growing up and having a new sibling, but I’m sure things will work out great!

    • Thank you, Raymond! 🙂 I’m really glad Leo finally took better control of the situation with Chrissy, too. I think it helps him tremendously having Leela by his side. I think you’re right about Blue’s fears about growing up and having a new sibling being normal. As far as things working out great, we can hope, but Blue is also very emotional and dramatic (and immature), so it might be a while before it all comes together. lol 😀

  13. Really enjoyed the heart to heart ! And that lovely Garland quotation ! (Blue reminds me a bit of Judy Garland, with that huge heart and tender vulnerability . ..)

    • Thank you so much, Cathy. 🙂 I liked the heart to heart, too. I think Blue wants to be good and also close to her father but sometimes her emotions take over. lol
And yes, Joots is my all time favorite! I will include her whenever I can. I like the connection you made between Blue and Judy and I do see what you mean. I really love that. 🙂

  14. Happy New Year’s ❤
Ugh, Chrissy. She really does not make reasonable demands, and I am completely on Leo’s side. I can’t believe she actually asked for a house! Im glad he told her to get a job 😂
Although Blue was reluctant at first, I think she would be a good sister to the baby!

    • Thank you, Lila <3 Ugh, Chrissy is right! lol I think Leo has figured out (probably with Leela's help) that Chrissy had an end goal in mind all along that only just came out today. As if he'd buy her a house and send her a monthly check. LOL As for Blue, her story is going to be picking up fairly quickly and I hope she will be a good sister, but when the baby is actually here, it might be too much for her to bear. Stay tuned. 😀

  15. Happy New Year! It’s still New Year’s Eve where I am, but still! 😀
I really like how you depict Blue. She’s this strange combination of Chrissy and Leo’s personalities, but it all comes across as very human. She’s got fears and hypocrisies and wishes, and all that is bubbling about in the cauldron known as the teenage years. So even though I despise some antics of hers, I adore how you write her. She’s very real.
Good on Leo, finally kicking Chrissy to the curb! And Leela was awesome at domineering that conversation. I love how she refused to let Chrissy interrupt her. XD
    Excellent chapter!

    • Wow, thank you so much, fluffymao. 🙂 That is a wonderful compliment you’ve paid me and I appreciate it. Blue is definitely a mishmash of both Chrissy and Leo which can be confusing sometimes, I think. I love how you describe the teenage years; just lovely and so true. I actually despise a lot of her antics, too, but I’m glad you think she is so real. As for Leo, I thought it was about time, since she poses no real threat now, that he stop giving in to Chrissy. She tried her guilt trip when she saw things weren’t going her way, but he resisted. lol And I picture Leela as civil, but very firm. 😀 Thank you again.

  16. I can’t believe it! Chrissy showed up in this stupid suit with emojis, acting like she’s still actually and demanded a house in France. Seriously, does she feel any SHAME? I don’t think so. Wish there was something Leo and Leela could do to stop her from begging for more with the same silly reason of her sleeping on a park bench as she’s Blue’s mother. And when it comes to Blue, I can feel her being, in a way, similar to her mother. She certainly is overemotional, but also very fragile and shaky inside. And the Olive part was so funny, Leo would like to be more like Gone with the Wind than Popeye.

    • Thank you, Jowita! I’m laughing out loud at the part of your comment where you said, “…showed up in this stupid suit with emojis…” hahaha Your reaction is kind of what I was going for. She a child in a woman’s body. 😛 I think Leo took a first good step by refusing to buy that house and telling her to get a job instead. lol As for Blue, I think you hit the nail on the head with your description… she is overemotional, dramatic and also very fragile. In the future, we’ll find out why she is that way. In the meantime, I was laughing again at the end of your comment with Leo wanting to be more like “Gone with the Wind” rather than “Popeye.” 😀 Personally, I like the name Olive. 🙂
